When you're two laps behind and losing ground by the minute, and your opponent is halfway through the final lap -- and suddenly stumbles, you do NOT put yourself into checkered-flag-mode, marking time "like a gentleman" until the opponent catches his breath and takes off again.
When Juan McCain said NOTHING about it this morning -- after his operatives put out the word that he WOULD (ensuring "free coverage" of a boring stump speech -- FULL coverage from start to finish -- coverage that was given ONLY because they expected him to address it) -- one thing is certain: The man either does NOT take it seriously, or does not INTEND to make use of it.
At this point, even if he does address it LATER today, he's lost the moment. People will ask, if he's serious about this, why did he completely IGNORE it earlier?
The thing is, he DIDN'T "completely" ignore it -- did anyone else catch the appellation he laid on Jack Kemp?
He referred to Kemp as his "comrade" (wink wink nudge nudge).
Seemed like a pretty obvious thumb in the eye to all those "marxist-talk troublemakers." Classic "maverick" kick-your-friends-in-the-face move.
The GOP specializes in "losing with dignity." To ensure that program, it is essential to first secure the loss.
