Its almost historic.
The New Orleans Times Picayune, the states largest newspaper, has endorsed Barack Obama, a democrat and the first part African American, part White person, for President. Interestingly, it also supported Bobby Jindal for Governor one year ago who is backing John McCain.
Over the past century, there have been moments when the world held its breath and looked to America for the next move: Our rescue of a broken Europe after World War II; the Cuban missile crisis; the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001.
"We are again at a critical juncture in history. Global markets are imploding. People's life savings are dwindling. Energy needs and climate change call the very foundations of modern society into question. Rogue nations and terrorist organizations have heightened the danger of nuclear proliferation. These problems transcend national boundaries.
"Here in the New Orleans area, a cataclysmic man-made flood turned our world upside down and revealed a profound national neglect of our infrastructure. Our vulnerability and the government's unpreparedness were emblematic of other disasters waiting to happen elsewhere in this country.
"America is poised on the cusp of new leadership, and once again the world, transfixed, is watching. Who is equal to these challenges? Who will lead the nation that leads the free world?
Our choice: Barack Obama.
John McCain is expected to win Louisiana, despite the endorsement.
Pelican State ping
Times-Picayune is owned by Conde-Nast, which also owns Vanity Fair, the New Yorker Magazine, and the Newark Star-Ledger.
if obama wins, the disappointments will be huge about a year from now.
the picayune should check out deval patrick’s approval ratings in liberal mass,
Let all the rags endorse him. When the chosen one goes down, hopefully they will all go with him.
Two things 1. we are the most giving sharing country in the world. we share our wealth willingly when called to do so and we did so to New Orleans and all the places that have had need. Millions of dollars from compassionate giving people. 2. I AM TIRED OF THE EDITORIALS THAT SEE ONLY THEIR LIBERAL AGENDA. MY STOPPING MY LIBERAL DAILY NEWSPAPER WON’T MAKE TOO MUCH OF AN IMPACT BUT IF Y’ALL IN THE BIG CITIES CUT YOUR SUBSCRIPTIONS FOR ONE-HALF OF A YEAR I BELIEVE YOUR EDITORS MAY BE NOTIFIED....NOT ALL OF THEIR LIBERAL SUBSCRIBERS PAY THE BILLS. THEY MAY SEE THE LIGHT!!
Item # 2 will save me cash and if I feel like helping my neighbor this winter, I’ll do it my way and the government can chip in some more of what they have of mine and I DON’T NEED TO GIVE MORE - NOBAMA!!!
Who cares what some picayune paper has to say?
Thank you for reminding me why I do not subscribe.
Not exactly a big surprise, coming from ACORN’s home city.
So the preferred bird cage liner for the chocolate city endorses 0bama. What a surprise ... (yawn).
0bama/Nagan creators of the choclate country ?
chocolate country here we come!
YYYAAAWWWNNN...by the way, BayouBuzz is run by a huge partisan Democrat hack.
They also endorese George HW Bush in 1992, and I believe they endorsed Dole in 1996. I don’t recall who they endorsed in 2000 or 2004.
Welfare State.
Fellow FReepers, please correct me if I’m wrong, but the Times-Picayune endorsed Bush in 2000 but chose not to endorse either Bush or Kerry in ‘04.
Wow! You have a great memory.
