Republican fears of historic Obama landslide unleash civil war for the future of the party
UK Telegraph ^ | 10/26/08 | Tim Shipman

Jim Nuzzo, a White House aide to the first President Bush, dismissed Mrs Palin's critics as "cocktail party conservatives" who "give aid and comfort to the enemy".

He told The Sunday Telegraph: "There's going to be a bloodbath. A lot of people are going to be excommunicated. David Brooks and David Frum and Peggy Noonan are dead people in the Republican Party. The litmus test will be: where did you stand on Palin?"

Mr Frum thinks that Mrs Palin's brand of cultural conservatism appeals only to a dwindling number of voters.

He said: "She emerges from this election as the probable frontrunner for the 2012 nomination. Her supporters vastly outnumber her critics. But it will be extremely difficult for her to win the presidency."

Mr Nuzzo, who believes this election is not a re-run of the 1980 Reagan revolution but of 1976, when an ageing Gerald Ford lost a close contest and then ceded the leadership of the Republican Party to Mr Reagan.

He said: "Win or lose, there is a ready made conservative candidate waiting in the wings. Sarah Palin is not the new Iain Duncan Smith, she is the new Ronald Reagan." On the accuracy of that judgment, perhaps, rests the future of the Republican Party.

It is time for a true conservative party. Sadly McCain is not the conservative we used to think he was. Hopefully Sarah will lead this party back to Goldwater days. If we survive the next four years and Sarah isn’t put in a re-education camp.

Excellent point...McCain supporting the Bailout will probably cost him the election...had he stayed conservative and went against the bailout...he would win this election, easily.

But, the GOP went with a liberal, pro-illegal, pro-Commie China, pro-liberal candidate.

If the GOP really wants to win back Congress in 2010 and the Presidency in 2012...it needs to dump any and all who support liberalism, illegal alienism, and free trade w Commie China. These are the things that will bring in conservatives back into the GOP

I'm sick and tired of RINOs who want to “reach across the aisle”. Lefties never reciprocate, ad they do not compromise. They demand acquiescence, and reaching across the aisle leaves Republicans with their arms bitten off.

Reagan reached across the aisle after he defeated liberals, and he reached out to Gorby AFTER the Soviet Union was all but defeated.

This will all come down to vision, articulation, resolve and leadership, all of which are in short supply in the GOP, alas.

The urban legend is materializing....liberals are taking over the govt and creating international chaos.

No matter who wins, acorn will continue to rig elections and extort banks to give risky mortgages.

No matter who wins, Chicago will still ban all guns in opposition to the supreme court.

It's time to move away from blue city-states if you want to keep you 2nd amendment.

It's time to think about how to survive the international turmoil that liberals will create by abandoning our overseas commitments.

Yes, I agree with your priorities. First the talking heads in the media. But we must go after them where it hurts ...in their credibility.....we need email, phone campaigns to drive these people off the conservative shows.....or at least make them disavow being conservative republicans.......then we go after the Vichy republican office holders....I am old enough to remember 1978...when we right winger/reagan people voted out of office senators like Cliff case here in NJ....sure in the short term the seats were picked up by Dems but we scared hell out of the rest of them so as to prepare a reagan victory in 1980 and taking over the senate.......this must be a scorched earth , take no prisoners endeavor to drive the GOP to the right.

Hagel will be obama’s S.O.D. As joe said, Mark my words.

They’d better get the riot gear out. There will be problems come Nov. 4th at about 9:00 P.M. central standard time. You’ll probably be able to see the fires from outer space. And the liberal white folks are going to learn that their stuff burns just as good as anyone’s.

"These slimes will attempt to slither their way back in under the radar. "

Yep, they are called 'neocons' and they are now slithering back into the Democrat party. They suckup to power to control it.

I for one would rather die fighting socialism than live in a socialist country.

-- Disagree, Krystol may consider himself the Palin Genesis, but if so, he has not shifted and then said "I made a mistake", which would buy him into the good graces of DC Elites. --

I agree completely. He's deeply invested in Palin's success. It's all the other stuff that I don't trust him on.

Krauthammer expressed concern about Palin's intellectual heft, did he not? Perhaps as a comment on the wisdom of the pick as a campaign changer, rather than on his opinion of her ability to perform.

Did I write that?

The fact is that profits are soaring, while employees are making less. So be it. Republicans better be prepared to lose. As far as I can tell, most people don't really envy the wealthy. Sure, some do, but most want to be rich themselves. However, when the economic and political system is such that the wealth is concentrating in fewer and fewer hands, we are bound to have a revolt. We are somewhat lucky if it happens this election, because the economy is going to suck so bad that voters will blame Obama, no matter what the One does.

Banks and investment firms using our tax money to buy up other banks instead of putting liquidity in the economy? HUH? This is insane, and when this gets out, will guarantee an Obama presidency. The rich getting richer on our tax money. Yeah, that's going to go over real well.

Croney capitalism is a loser. Wake up, republicans.

Let me break it to you, you’re a Democrat and half-a-socialist. If you ever considered yourself a conservative, please consider yourself excommunicated. Go worship The One. He’ll be glad to have you. You have the ideological rhetoric down already.

We do not have the voice yet mick, not yet, so we should decide on the closest target, Vichy in our midst.

After that, we move to politicos.

One by one, one by one, we put our weight on them.

Some of the fall in job pay has to do with the de-unionization of the workplace in response to overseas competition.

A large chunk of the manufacturing capacity of the North American continent has evaporated. This may be about to change since Europe now views the US as the most stable and inexpensive place to manufacture their products for them. Europe can't compete in manufacturing due to VAT and other taxes....

Even if B.O. wins the presidential election he will be hamstrung even more so than Clinton. There will not be the mass catharsis of 'change' that the masses have been promised. When this becomes news there will be riots in the inner cities and the blue city-states will hurt the most.

Obama doesn't know what's going to happen next.Bill Ayers does though...

“they”?

How about “us” the FReeepers?

We should let each and everyone Vichy know their actions come at a price, a never ending stream of phone calls, emails, faxes, and mocking threads.

First things first, we have to, we must, come to absolute agreement on who is, and is not, a Vichy Republican.

If Mad Jon won’t name names, we surely can and should.

Hey, I campaigned for Tom Delay in this district. I’m 51. You do the math. My first vote was for Ronald Reagan. I’ve been involved in my local precinct. I’m just sick of the ineptitude of the republican party to do anything but reward business when nothing is trickling down anymore.

Her comments on Sarah Palin were unbelievable to me. I have enjoyed her writing tremendously in the past and I feel blindsided by her comments. She has certainly proven to me that she doesn’t give a rat’s ass what I think. As a matter of fact she is showing a great deal of contempt for us non-elite types. I’ll probably continue to read her columns in the short term because, like the Coyote, she probably hasn’t stopped bouncing yet and I have a morbid curiousity. After that, I’ll probably move on. it.

Sorry, but I’m a truth teller. Some people just like to shoot the messenger. Go ahead. I don’t care. The election is depressing enough.

Good post. How did you escape drinking the trickle down koolaid served by Wall Street?
