David Axelrod's Strategy "Going Forward" (vanity)
Self | October 25 2008 | Captain America

Posted on 10/25/2008 9:55:52 PM PDT by MN_Mike

Here's what David Axelrod is up to as we approach the finish line. First off, there is an unprecedented number of "undecideds" remaining who will cast a vote on November 4. David Axelrod is employing a two-part strategy designed to sway the "undecideds" to Obama.

1. Moving beyond the election. Axelrod is employing all of his surrogates to promote the idea that the results of this election are already determined.

He is leaking to the press the fact that Obama has already prepared his post-election inaugural address. Plans have already been made for the election night ceremony at Grant Park and that upwards of 1 million will take part.

2. The Inevitability Factor or "Bandwagon Effect" is being employed by his queuing up the names of prominent defecting Republicans (Obamacons) and staging the timing of their very public endorsement. Look for more endorsements coming daily as we approach November 4.

He is counting on this inevitability effect to sway undecideds to join them in the winners' circle.

The McCain campaign is not reacting well to the Axelrod Plan. They should be countering his plan by making public and visible those who endorse McCain-Palin (i.e., Joe Liberman, etc.). Even if they are not defecting democrats, he still needs to tout them for public display.

He also needs to have a public forum with groups of "undecideds" meaning filtered for open-mindedness. This should include a check on these undecideds prior donations to insure they are not stealth.

I should also mention that Axelrod is trying to sow the seeds that there is disenchantment and “everyone for themselves” within the McCain-Palin campaign.

I disagree 100%. The way to deal with this is to make fun of it.

" The Inevitability Factor or "Bandwagon Effect" "

Uh, huh. Yeah, that's the winning ticket.

Ya know, in the military, it was said that once selected for promotion, to pin on your new rank before the actual date of the promotion was effective, would bring bad luck. So let’s all hope real hard that Obama has real real real bad luck before the election and loses to McCain.

That may well be, but I think the post-election posturing is primarily designed to ensure that his base shows up. Obama’s support is a mile wide and a millimeter deep. While usually a campaign would want its supporters to believe that the race is close, even when it isn’t, in order to promote base turnout, in this case the Obama campaign needs its supporters to believe that he’s really, really going to win. You won’t be supporting a loser. Do you really want to miss out voting for The Messiah? He might be watching...

I don’t see how this is a disagreement, even 100%.

Sure, a flippant rebuttal is helpful but it alone is not a counter strategy. McCain needs to win over the undecideds and you don’t win them over simply by throwing out a chuckle.

Through his media allies at Politico and CNN, working in collusion with Axelrod?

I disagree here. The one risk Obama (D-ACORN) has in employing the inevitability strategy is that his jazzed up youth vote will simply punch the snooze button on their alarm clocks assuming the fix is in.

No, the inevitability strategy and “bandwagon” is intended to get the undecideds to join them in the winners’ circle.

He already has won the undecideds. Just like Hillary did during the primaries.

McCain is finally pushing all the right buttons now. We’re doing well in Florida and Ohio. PA looks good. People are starting to wake up and a LOT of Dems are running the other way from Zero.

So, cheer up, will ya! :D

Here’s a joke that I found in a story earlier tonight:

I don’t understand how anyone can be undecided in this election. I liken it to an airplane trip where the flight attendant comes down the aisle with her food cart and, eventually, parks it beside my seat. “Can I interest you in the chicken?” she asks. “Or would you prefer the platter of sh*t with bits of broken glass in it?”

To be undecided in this election is to pause for a moment and then ask how the chicken is cooked.

Undecideds are not in absolute terms but in relative terms.

There is no on/off switch by which all the undecideds go to one campaign or the other.

Afraid we are talking passed each other.

I have first-hand reports and have conducted door-to-door for the campaign this weekend. Believe me, there are a large number of undecideds in this election compared to the one in 2004 and 2000.
