If they have McCain down 2 nationally, he wins the EC. If it's tied nationally, he wins IA and NH too, and we probably save another 5-6 congressional seats.

It seems to me that the polls are being used to shape public opinion, rather than reflect public opinion.
Pollsters seem to be oversampling d-rats in some internals, and as we get closer to the actual election, they get more realistic, or as you said, “...had to get their samples in line with reality.”
Perhaps the liberty pollster take in telling us the truth is lie number 49 in the next installment of your terrific book, “48 Liberal Lies About American History.”
I think some pollsters are going to stick to their inflated projections because they actually believe the electorate is going to turn out like that. So it wouldn’t surprise me to have kooky polls all the way to Election Day.
