Telling a friend that the love of his life is a phony and dangerous is not likely to get him to change his mind. But it may cost you a friend.
It is much the same story with true believers in Barack Obama. They have made up their minds and not only don’t want to be confused by the facts, they resent being told the facts.
An e-mail from a reader mentioned trying to tell his sister why he was voting against Obama but, when he tried to argue some facts, she cut him short: “You don’t like him and I do!” she said. End of discussion.
When one thinks of all the men who have put their lives on the line in battle to defend and preserve this country, it is especially painful to think that there are people living in the safety and comfort of civilian life who cannot be bothered to find out the facts about candidates before voting to put the fate of this nation, and of generations yet to come, in the hands of someone chosen because they like his words or style.

I hear you. Whenever I talk it up on the bench for McCain-Palin in front of certain “O-bots” - after their attempts to cram Obama down my throat - the look on their faces is one of thinly-disguised rage......one of the hallmarks of Marxist polarization ya think?

It is no exaggeration to say that I equate these people with the people who were so mesmerized by Adolf Hitler in the 1930s. I never thought I would see people in this country worship someone who has such a hate filled background, and who has accomplished so little, like they blindly worship Obama. This whole thing is just getting creepier and scarier every day. Considering the radical democrat majority in Congress and their publicly stated plans, I don’t think it is at all over dramatic to say that the United States is precariously close to voting for a fascist dictatorship. God help us all.

Each year I get to celebrate Independence Day twice.
On June 30 I celebrate MY independence day and on July 4 I celebrate
America’s.
This year is special, because it marks the 40th anniversary
of my independence.
On June 30, 1968, I escaped Communist Cuba and a few months
later I was in the US to stay. That I happened to arrive in Richmond
on Thanksgiving Day is just part of the story, but I digress.
I’ve thought a lot about the anniversary this year. The election year
rhetoric has made me think a lot about Cuba and what transpired there.
In the late 1950’s most Cubans thought Cuba needed a change, and they
were right. So when a young leader came along, every Cuban was at
least receptive.
When the young leader spoke eloquently and passionately and denounced
the old system, the press fell in love with him. They never
questioned who his friends were or what he really believed in.
When he said he would help the farmers and the poor and bring free medical care and
education to all, everyone followed. When he said he would bring
justice and equality to all, everyone said ‘Praise the Lord.’ And
when the young leader said, ‘I will be for change and I’ll bring you
change,’ eve ryone yelled, ‘Viva Fidel! ‘
But nobody asked about the change, so:
*By the time the executioner’s guns went silent the people’s guns
had been taken away.
*By the time everyone was equal, they were equally poor, hungry, and
oppressed.
*By the time everyone received their free education it was worth
nothing.
*By the time the press noticed, it was too late, because theye were
now working for him.
*By the time the change was finally implemented Cuba had been knocked
down a couple of notches to Third-World status.
*By the time the change was over more than a million people had taken
to boats, rafts, and inner tubes.
You can call those who made it ashore anywhere else in the world the
most fortunate Cubans. And now I’m back to the beginning of my
story.
Luckily, we would never in America fall for a young leader who
promised change without asking, ‘WHAT change?
How will you carry it out? What will it cost America?’
Would we?

So, so true. You could have proof positive that Obama was the anti-christ himself and it wouldn’t matter one iota. Then again, I’m not sure anymore that if the “shoe was on the other foot”, that Republicans, including many FReepers, wouldn’t feel the same. It’s getting scary ‘round here. Conservative or not....anybody but the socialist.
I have heard what this guy reports. In essence:’ my mind is made up don’t bother me with the facts.’ This approach is usually held by white supporters. It is usually accompanied by an expression that kind of says ‘you poor soul, if you only realized the truth as I do.’ An almost mystical look is a close but somewhat inadequate statement of the believers facial expression.
Jim Jones is a good comparison....

Hey, I’m not too thrilled about John McCain and I’ll acknowledge faults but I don’t see willingness on the part of any Obama supporter to do the same.

Its gonna be a nasty divorce when the scales fall off these people’s eyes about hussein. They’ll have to suffer before they wake up.
