Officer killed by suspected illegal immigrant drunk driver

A 25-year-old police officer is dead at the hands of a suspected drunk driver in the country illegally.

Officer Shane Figueroa was responding to a shots fired call at approximately 1:30 a.m. Saturday when 50-year-old Jose Gonzalez slammed his pickup truck into the officer's car near 19th Avenue and Roeser Road.

"As we were interviewing him last night, he advised us that he was an undocumented worker from Mexico," said Phoenix Police Chief Jack Harris.

"He has been booked into county jail. We are doing further investigation not only on the accident, but on the background of the individual [as well]."

There are four warrants for Gonzalez's arrest under a different name, two of which are for DUI. He was booked on charges including manslaughter and assault.

Gonzalez suffered minor injuries, while his passenger, described by police as an adult male, was seriously hurt.

Figueroa leaves behind a wife and infant daughter.

They have maligned and slandered the one man who IS enforcing them...Sheriff Joe Arpaio.

Will Gordon and Napolitano attend this public servant’s funeral?

There's something wrong with this story.

We do not have illegal aliens in this coutry.

They are "undocumented workers." And we're just trying to help them adjust to our ways by our learning Spanish, letting them rape our wimmin, and running over school children with their brandy-new drivers' licences.

Bush, McCain and the rest in Washington, DC think this behavior is within the acceptable norm for undocumented workers.

A LEO is not more important but it highlights the bad judgment of Jack Harris, Chief of Police. He supports a sanctuary city mentality and does not want to help identify immigration violators. This illegal had been pick up before for drunk driving and should have been immediately deported, but no. He was freed and now we have another death at the hands of another drunk illegal. I'm so sick of this.
