Palin to headline second Indiana rally in eight days
Republican vice-presidential nominee Sarah Palin makes her second Indiana appearance in eight days Saturday night, with a rally in Fort Wayne.
The Alaska governor and self-described hockey mom speaks at 7:15 p.m. at Memorial Coliseum, the home ice of the Fort Wayne Komets. GOP officials expect a packed house of 15,000 people.
State party spokesman Jay Kenworthy says Palin's appearance last week in Noblesville sparked the party's biggest turnout of volunteers in at least four years. He's hoping for a similar effect this time.
Country singer Hank Williams Jr. is scheduled to perform before Palin takes the stage, and Congressmen Mark Souder and Mike Pence will address the rally.
Souder, whose 3rd District includes Fort Wayne, once appeared a sure bet for reelection, but the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee has placed the district on its "Red to Blue" list of seats it believes it can capture.
The party has been pouring money into the district in support of challenger Michael Montagano.
Kenworthy says Souder's "in good shape," but says the rally gives him an additional chance to get his message out.
Most polls show a close race in Indiana between John McCain and Barack Obama. Obama visited Indianapolis on Thursday, his sixth Indiana trip of the campaign.
McCain hasn't been here since he addressed the National Sheriffs Association conference in Indianapolis in July.
Coliseum Parking advisory for Saturday
FORT WAYNE, Ind. (October 24, 2008) - The Allen County War Memorial Coliseum would like to issue the following traffic and parking advisories for Governor Sarah Palin’s “Road To Victory Rally” on Saturday, October 25:
Due to forecasted rain and no space to wait indoors, prior to arena doors opening, guests are encouraged not to arrive early. Doors open at 4:00 p.m. and the rally is scheduled to start at 6:30 p.m.
Guests are encouraged to carpool with friends and family, if at all possible. We are expecting a capacity crowd. Parking will be near capacity.
If you don’t have a ticket to get into the rally, you are encouraged not to come to the Memorial Coliseum complex.
Residents of the area, not attending the rally, are encouraged to seek alternate travel routes Saturday afternoon and evening, to avoid road congestion around the Coliseum.
Lord, I pray that you give Gov Palin and Sen McCain the strength they will need to keep up the pace (and heat) in this coming week. That you Lord will give them the words they need to say. I pray that people will hear what McCain/Palin are saying and their eyes will be open to the issues at hand. Lord our country stands at a cross road, we will either serve you or turn our back on you. I pray we chose to serve you!
Amen!
McCain supporters have to be honest with themselves about the state of the race. If the McCain campaign has to spend time in Indiana at this stage, things are looking bad. Sorry, I am a McCain supporter and will be voting for the repubs in PA, but it is what it is!
A big Amen!
LLS
I say ALL McCain/Palin supporters !! let’s show our Solidarity !! turn on your head lites of your cars and leave them on while driving until election day !!
Ummm, is this the same woman who is "bringing down" the McCain ticket? The same woman who is going to cost McCain the election? /s
We are honest with ourselves. We've been fighting this like we were 15 points behind. WE know it ain't over till it's over. With that said..... If we all had your attitude, we'd be dead and buried as we speak. God helps those who help themselves, not those who wallow in self pity & destruction.
I realize 0 has the young voter locked up. However, in a little bit here I’m headed to Fort Wayne with my oldest daughter, 24 and her husband, 23 and my other daughter, 22 and her fiance, 25.
The younger vote won’t be too happy when they find out
Obama’s gonna draft them all into his “new” army
and make them go places “they don’t want to go”
Just home. There were a lot of young people there. It was fantastic.
