John McCain, R-Ariz., waves to supporters as they cheer during WASHINGTON Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama reports raising $36 million for his campaign during the first two weeks of October.
Obama's fundraising pace showed a marked decline compared with the $150 million he raised in September. That's according to a financial report he filed with the Federal Election Commission late Thursday.
Obama spent more than $105 million from Oct. 1 to Oct. 15. At that pace he would more than double his record spending from September.
He had nearly $66 million in the bank at the end of the two-week period.
John McCain and the Republican National Committee reported having a combined $84 million as of last week to spend before Election Day.

Someone help me out here. Does this mean Obama has less money then McCain for the last two weeks of October?
A lot of foreign investors and hedge fund managers losing their shirt in the market right now. Errr... I mean single mothers and blue collar workers.
I think that is what it says. Hence they are asking for more money in ten dollar donations and the media to pay up for “prime” locations and the victory, I mean concession party/riot.
Time for McCain and the RNC to let it rip. If you guys do that and go into the hole, but be this Socialist and the Drive Bys, I will gladly help refill the bank account.
Technically yes, but that's not necessarily meaningful.
Obama has already bought most of the ads he's going to be buying -- for example, he already bought that half hour spot during the world series.
Numbers are down because the truth is starting to get out about all the fraudulent fund-raising. They’re afraid to get caught, now that SOME FOLKS are beginning to figure out this scheme.
Early Voting has been pretty heavy but hopefully it is mainly decided people.
I still don’t like all the resources Obama has to bus people constantly to the pollbooths though.
Yes and no. Obama can raise more money and is. He is sending out emails to his followers begging for more cash.
Feed me Seymour!
OK, given that the $36 million is only for the first two weeks of October, that’s still a HUGE drop..... so he’s on a pace to raise $72 million this month after the staggering total of $150 million last month.
Such a drop would seem most unlikely for the pattern of “normal” contributors who decide at various points in the campaign to make their donation, and for all the people who donate once and then decide to donate more (I know that I’ve received a slew of solicitations since I donated right after the announcement of the VP nomination of Sarah Palin, and I’m still receiving them.
Such a drastic drop would seem to strongly suggest some form(s) of manipulation and/or illegal contributions pumped up the Sept. figure so drastically. With “normal” (non-foreign, non-Soros) contributors, I would think that donations would be spread almost evenly in Sept. and Oct. — sure there would be a boost around the convention, but there would also be plenty of people who wait until closer to the election, etc.
I wonder if a study of past presidential campaigns, regardless of overall amounts contributed, would show such a drastic drop of 50% from one month to the next in the home stretch.
Obama’s campaign may be “unprecedented” in more ways than the public realizes..... there may well be unprecedented levels of corruption and illegality.
It looks like McCain has husbanded his limited resources wisely.
I wonder how different things would be if there had been cash parity in this race.
New McCain ad:
“I am Joe” (featuring homemade videos by ordinary folks)

“Vote” for this ad by giving it lots of clicks!
**Time for McCain and the RNC to let it rip**
My feelings, exactly!
Nothing to lose now! Go for it!
A military man like McCain understands that principle rather than a thug like Obama who just pisses rounds into the bushes, just in case someone is out there.
“It looks like McCain has husbanded his limited resources wisely.”
I think so, too. Here in the Tidewater area of VA, I’m hearing a lot more pro-McCain radio ads than last week. It appears they’ve ramped up their ad buys.
I believe McCain needs to follow Obama’s half-hour infomercial with one of his own. He should bring in Sarah and a couple subject matter experts to accentuate the points he needs to make. It’s a mistake letting Obama have the last word on TV.
