In a video posted Thursday on Funnyordie.com, the actor-turned-director reprises his role on "The Andy Griffith Show" as a way to rally support for Barack Obama.
While speaking into the camera, Howard has his beard shaved, dons a youthful red wig and puts on the kind of outfit he would have only worn as Opie Taylor in the `60s.

Well, this has to be the creepiest and strangest election I've ever seen.

I love The Andy Griffith Show. Perhaps I’m the type of person Ron Howard is trying to sway.
Nope. Didn’t work.

I remember Ron Howard being one of the first “name” donors to Obama. He and Tom Hanks.
Opie, have far you’ve fallen. You brought so much joy and laughs to a culture that embraced you, when families watched together, prayed together, and stayed together.
Thanks for being Opie and for American Graffiti. What a shame you’ve a total nutcase now.

Opie’s Production Partner, Brian Grazer, is my wife’s cousin - didn’t sway her or me!

Not sure I want to watch that video. I'd rather remember those characters before they were corrupted by their Hollywood impersonators.
I saw the headline and assumed that some ACORN volunteer had signed the TV characters up fraudulently. Either way it is very strange.

Didn’t Fonze, and his beloved show, already go over the shark once?

Is he trying to say that Andy Taylor would have voted for a communist?
Sorry Opie but No thank you.

I really wish these actors would all just keep their cake holes shut. I really hate knowing how stupid they are.

Caught that video this morning on Hot Air.
It was kind of cute -— seeing Dopey Opie, senile Andy and foolish Fonzy. I'd rather remember all three as they once were, a long time ago, not as they are today.

I truly, truly think we need to start hitting hollywood more in the pocketbook. This election has changed everything. If they feel so strong about stuff that they're comfortable with pissing off half the pepole in America, let's see how they feel when we don't show up for their stuff. I mean it. I'm thinking of starting a website with all the information of what's coming up an what people should avoid. There's probably one out there. I feel helpless...because they have money, they get to push their ideas on us and it just pisses me off to no end.
What most people don't understand is that the really rich in America know how to hide their money..these tax increases won't effect them too much...it never does. Why don't people understand that?

I studied theater because of Andy Griffith. I saw a stage production Six Characters in Search of an Author and it effected me so much. I thought Andy would be republican. VERY disappointed.

I like how talking about Bush and Cheney, Fonzie says that 8 years ago he thought, “hey let’s give these guys a chance” but he turned out to be wrong.
It sort of reminds me of the perils of taking such a risky gamble on 0bama today.
