Based on the news item-—and I’ve been at a fundraiser so I could be out of the loop on this-—it was an ATM robbery that escalated, and the guy decided to make it about Obama after the fact. Right?

Who knew that best-selling author would be a Hendrix fan? ;-)

"Cities" don't "tear themselves up" - people in the cities tear up things.

Saw Jimi and the Experience in either 67 or 68 (time flies) when he had just come off the Monkees tour. "Soft Machine," a Scandinavian (at the time, Progressive Rock) band opened for him. First, we had never seen "power trios" before. Every band had either three guitars and singers or two guitars, bass, and keyboards and singers. So here is SM, drummer, keyboards and bass, and they were incredible. Great, great drummer.
Then Hendrix came out and we were stunned. How could three guys make that much music?
Saw him about a year later. Vanilla Fudge opened for him, and blew him off the stage. They were simply the best act I have ever seen on a particular night. Anyway, Jimi came out and was totally drugged. Couldn't tune his guitar. Still played his @ss off, but nothing like a year or so earlier. He died not long after that show.

Re: the woman who mentioned military ballots being tossed out in Fairfax County, VA because of a “technicality”, I read earlier that a military Mom got word from her son in Afghanistan that ballots for their base had been “lost” and they may not get to vote.
Considering military folks are reportedly polling 3 to 1 in favor of McCain, there is little wonder that they are having lost ballots and “technicality” problems.
Military personnel ballots should be cast and counted, even if there has to be a suspension of the deadline on their behalf. It is absolutely unconscionable that they, of all people, would not have their votes to count.

I saw Hendrix in '69 at the old Electric Factory in Philadelphia and he was unbelievable. The opening act was Woody's Truck Stop and the guitar player/singer was a very young Todd Rundgren. I was fifteen and it was the most amazing show I have ever seen.
I saw him in May '70 at Temple U. stadium and he was just about done. The under card was Cactus, Steve Miller and the Grateful Dead. I'm glad I saw him.

Oh, man, Cactus was my second all-time favorite band. They played the "Aquarius" in PHX for four nights and we went every night.
Amazingly, three years later my band "auditioned" Jim McCarty of Cactus for our guitar slot. It turns out, he was auditioning us for "the Rockets." (He thought I played too much like Cactus's Carmine Appice, which to me was an unbelievable compliment, but he didn't mean it as such). Although Rusty Day could grate on you, as a boogie band, Cactus had no equal. Appice and Bogert were absolutely the greatest rhythm section on the planet during that period.
