Calif. gay marriage ban backers target businesses

San Francisco, CA (AP) -- Leaders of the campaign to outlaw same-sex marriage in California are warning businesses that have given money to the state's largest gay rights group they will be publicly identified as opponents of traditional unions unless they contribute to the gay marriage ban, too.

ProtectMarriage.com, the umbrella group behind a ballot initiative that would overturn the California Supreme Court decision that legalized gay marriage, sent a certified letter this week asking companies to withdraw their support of Equality California, a nonprofit organization that is helping lead the campaign against Proposition 8.

"Make a donation of a like amount to ProtectMarriage.com which will help us correct this error," reads the letter. "Were you to elect not to donate comparably, it would be a clear indication that you are in opposition to traditional marriage. ... The names of any companies and organizations that choose not to donate in like manner to ProtectMarriage.com but have given to Equality California will be published."

The letter was signed by four members of the group's executive committee: campaign chairman Ron Prentice; Edward Dolejsi, executive director of the California Catholic Conference; Mark Jansson, a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints; and Andrew Pugno, the lawyer for ProtectMarriage.com. A donation form was attached. The letter did not say where the names would be published.

San Diego businessman Jim Abbott, who owns a real estate company and is a member of Equality California's board of directors, received one of the letters late Wednesday afternoon. His adult son called Abbott to read it to him.

The truth is, of course, that the sodomites are far more effective at targeting the supporters of Proposition 8 than the forces of good are at targeting the pro-gay lobby. Like the American Psychiatric profession, prior to 1973, I always sensed that homosexuals were mentally ill. I’m sure of it now.

Not much to worry about, EVERYONE is running out of money in California, and even Gay’s are going to have to back down and buy from unperverted people.

Whatever the cause, if some jerk tried to push at me like that I’d tell them to get bent.

Okay, now this would just tick me off. Even though I don’t support gay marriage, no one is going to shake me down for money with veiled threats.

RIGHT ON - THE BEST DEFENSE IS A GOOD OFFENSE. WE NEED MORE OF THIS!!!!!

Although I detest the leftists groups they know that this is the way to succeed - taking a line from rules for radicals - we need to attack individuals (and individual companies). This is what the left has been doing so well for years and years. This is why they are winning house and Senate seats - they know they cant fight republicans but they can make individual RINOs who are a homo or pervert an example for the whole party.

Freepers this is a battle for America’s heart - the left wins with emotion - we MUST start to battle using examples of how the left murders, rapes and destroys life. It will work - the uneducated and the simple minded (like hollyweirdos) are easily easily persuaded by emotion NOT LOGIC.

LOL. They’re throwing the same tactics used by the EQCA homonazis right back at them. What goes around, comes around.

Fine let the left get away with murder - whats fair is fair. You have never learned the Chicago way apparantly. We MUST go after the companies and individuals who are at war with America - IT IS THE ONLY WAY WE CAN GET THE COUNTRY BACK. There are too many simple minded individuals who are only driven by emotion NOT logic.

We must attack with both logic and expose the left for the hate that they are. If we fail to do this because we think we are above this then we will continue to lose. We can not afford to act like country club republicans anymore. It is time to expose the left - we need to be truthful but we need to take it to them - no more being quiet.

How about this statistic - 85% of all corporate donations go to left leaning causes!!!!!!! Ask yourself why.

Sorry, I am pro-Prop 8, but this is extortion, and wrong. Let them know you’ll publish their names, but demanding money seems desperate.

Agreed. I am reading Nixonland right now. That generation of Conservatives stood up and met the left’s threat of force with force. They are like bullies, it's the only thing they understand.

It reads like blackmail. I say name the corporations and let the marbles fall where they may.

“but demanding money seems desperate.”

Desperate times call for desperate measures. Almost all of the corporate donation to charities goes to leftist orgs. Wake up - we have reached a point where this is going to affect your children and grandchildren......

We must go on the attack - rules for radicals has worked for the left - they have attacked and look at what they have now

They own the schools
They own the courts
They own the media
They own the govt

Are you so above doing what right? We are in a war the enemy is getting ready to to eliminate your right to speech, to the 2nd amendment, to liberty - yet you say this is desperate. You got things backwards my friend.

“It reads like blackmail.”

Yet the left will go after anyone or any company that dares oppose them...how can you say this? We must go on the attack - we can not win this war by staying on the sidelines and playing defense. If a company has taken a side in the cultural war then they need to be prepared to be boycotted or provide money for both sides - that is all that it says.

No. I am sorry. It’s one thing to list the names of those businesses who donate to left-leaning causes. It’s quite another to threaten them if they don’t give US money. I do not support this tactic.

” I do not support this tactic”

Good, well you will support the left by remaining a sheep then. The left knows many of us are either too afraid or to convicted to demand that companies remain neutral or anty up.

We will learn the Chicago way, whether we want to or not. When they take away your constitutional freedoms it will be too late. Dont say you werent warned of what coming.

I agree. Every legal means we can devise should be used. Businesses that chose to support the perversion of marriage entered the political fray. They should not be exempt from counter tactics by traditional marriage supporters. Maybe they’ll think twice before they give again to radical Leftists.

You’re right. Leftism is now mainstream. We have to be the radicals now or there is no hope.

Take your “Chicago way” and shove it up your Tallahasee. It’s not cool no matter how you shake & bake it. We aren’t like them. Period.
