I have many Republican friends who are disgusted that I'm voting third party this election year. They believe stopping Barack Obama from becoming president outweighs all else. Meanwhile, I have many Democrat friends who are equally disgusted; for them, seeing John McCain defeated is more important than who wins. They are all wasting their votes.
Imagine a reckless teenager who constantly runs up his parents' credit cards, smashes the family car every Friday night, is failing in school, and has serious drinking and drug problems. Now imagine that no matter how reckless and dangerous that teenager became, his parents believed his behavior was worth tolerating simply because he was "their" kid. No reasonable person would consider this good parenting.
And yet this is exactly how otherwise reasonable people vote.
No matter how bad the Republican or Democrat nominee for president is, the party faithful support their own without fail. The message to politicians? They may lie, ignore their party's platform, and betray every supposed principle, but they will never be held accountable by most voters. Like the reckless teenager, there is simply no reason for them to stop their irresponsible behavior.
The greatest power the people have is their vote, and in supporting the lesser of two evils each election, voters ensure eternal evil.

“All this public political posturing is intended to lend credence to the outcome, no more.”
I would hear people say that and I thought they were so stupid. For the first time, this election has showed me that they’re simple way of viewing politics was probably right.
ONE or the OTHER. There is no third kid.
Apparently you don't get it. Without the support of Republican voters the Republican leadership that, as you say, 'selected' McCain as the nominee never would have been in a position to do so in the first place. Leadership of the party is there because of the support they receive from their constituency. Of course this is a moot point since you cannot get around the fact that there were approximately 10 candidates to choose from during the primaries and John McCain received the most votes out of the bunch. To deny that, and pretend that somehow McCain wasn't the candidate chosen by voters, is to deny reality.
Sorry for the modification. I'm concerned also and just couldn't help myself.
Ask that poster about the “New World Order”.

You’re directing your anger in the wrong direction. Sin is the reproach of a nation, not people who refuse to approve of evil, however lesser the evil is. Obama doesn’t have the ability to destroy the country. God sets up nations and destroys them. If we’re to be destroyed, it’s because we were no longer worthy of God’s blessing. Let’s get worthy. Let’s repent of our idolatry and turn to God.
What people don't seem to realize is that if McCain is elected, he will have a totally Democratic Congress to deal with. And knowing our Republocrat ("Biden is my buddy") McCain, he won't "hold the line against socialism", he will become part of the move Left, dragging the Republican Party to the Left with him! He's already done a good job of it so far. What do you think will happen if he gets into the White House?
The RNC and the DNC are so sure that they have "a monopoly on candidates for election", that it doesn't matter what candidate gets in as long as it is "one of theirs". Anyone they don't control, like a third party candidate, is dangerous so they hire people to come up with stupid slogans like "a vote for Chuck Baldwin is a vote for Obama" and then party loyalists parrot them.
The same thing that makes capitalism great is the same that make elections great -- COMPETITION! Not monopolies on power! Otherwise, we really might as well be in a communist country, only having a choice of "party members"! And as far as I can see, Republocratic DC has offered us the limited choice between a socialist and a communist. If a third party offers us an alternative, then more power to them!
New World Order, yeah, that’s it.
Only if you believe McCain had a claim of ownership to that vote in the first place.
If I don't buy a car from DealerX, have I "taken away" his sales commission?
It's pure arrogance for politicians and their supporters to think that they can get the vote of people without earning it.
Oh, and the borders are still open and all the guys who wanted amnesty are still there. The issue isn’t dead as long as they’re in office.
“This is no longer a game that can be changed later when we get ready to do so...”
This almost made me want to yell at my monitor. That would have been really embarrassing. HOW DID WE GET HERE?????!!! BY VOTING FOR PEOPLE LIKE BUSHES AND MCCAIN SS SSS;LALWEO IWEFJ;OI WJF;OIJ
..."A wasted vote is a vote for someone you know does not represent your own beliefs and principles. A wasted vote is a vote for someone you know will not lead the country in the way it should go. A wasted vote is a vote for the "lesser of two evils."...
I have a question for ya.
Current polls show Obama leading by at least 20 points in Rhode Island. It is a reliably Dem state (Bush lost by almost 30 points).
Why should a conservative in such a state vote for John McCain (as opposed to a third party) if McCain does not represent their priority concerns?
Wouldn’t a vote for McCain in such a scenario just reinforce the theory of “Republican voters will vote for anyone(R) in the general election, no matter how liberal”?
“What did your Mama teach you?”
She taught me how to throw a spiral but what I learned about forgiveness comes from the Bible. Just because I might forgive him doesn’t mean I should forget he thinks people who believe the Bible are agents of intolerance.
Vote for who you want.
All I’m saying is that, as a conservative, you cannot deny that every vote for a third party candidate equals one less vote that Obama needs.
“To deny that, and pretend that somehow McCain wasn’t the candidate chosen by voters, is to deny reality.”
Do you deny that the Republican leadership, elected or unelected, either way, unaccountable, made the rules such that independents and Rats were voting in Republican primaries? Thereby leaving only two choices after the first primaries, the cultist and the liberal.
I cannot engage a discussion with anyone who is into conspiracy theories because he/she is not grounded in reality.
