Two veteran warriors battling to represent the 12th Congressional District appear locked in the closest race in the district in years.
Democratic Rep. John Murtha leads retired Army Lt. Col. William Russell by a little more than 4 percentage points, within the Susquehanna Poll's 4.9-point margin of error. The poll of 400 likely voters was conducted for the Tribune-Review on Tuesday, amid uproar over Murtha's statement that some of his constituents are racist.
Stanley Shemanski, 67, a retired meat cutter who lives in Apollo, said he's undecided about the congressional race. He doesn't know much about Russell, but he's upset with Murtha's comment that racism in the district could hurt Democrat Barack Obama's chances.

How bad would y'all like to see Jack Murth get tossed? Me too.
Kick some cash to Army vet Bill Russell. This guy is the first in many years to actually have a shot at knocking off this clown. He is pro-life, pro-gun, pro-victory, anti-pork, anti-bailout, etc and is definitely worthy of our support. He's a grassroots guy, not a RINO in the least.

Looks like all those western PA folks don’t like being called ‘rednecks’ by a treasonous, liberal POS like Murtha.

Done, those fine folks live just South of me. Me and my redneck neighbors; or are we racist? I can never seem to remember, maybe it was “really redneck”...

If I were Russel, I would run an add that had the sound bite of Murha referring to some Pennsylvanians as “racists” and “red necks.” Then I would ask a simple question: “do you want someone who hates you representing you in congress?”
To: PeterFinn
My question is, why is that race even close. Murtha should have been gone yesterday.
Come on PA let’s get it together.

If I knew nothing of Murtha’s politics, the simple fact that he calls heroes murderers and good citizens racists and rednecks makes him unqualified to hold ANY government position in my opinion.
Vote this pig-eyed sack of crap out, NOW!

Voters in SW PA may or not be REDNECKS (amen!)
But if they vote for Murtha, they are IDIOTS!

Murtha has been a major source of cash from Washington for all kinds of projects in his district. A friend of mine who lives in that district has compiled a list of various Federal offices, government contractors, etc. in that part of PA who are only in existence until Murtha leaves office.
It's the same role that Bud Shuster played in Pennsylvania for years . . . only the party affiliation is different this time around.

If Mark Levin wrote the headline, it would be “Lardass’s Hold on House Seat Slips”
Thank me!

Me too. Michele Bachmann is one of our finest.

I understand . . . and I agree 100%.
I was just pointing out how some of the most blatantly corrupt jack@sses manage to garner so much support from their constituents over the years.

Murtha’s district seems to be demoniacally gerrymandered to pack all of the moonbats in SW PA (outside of Pittsburgh) together.

Murhta has dropped much pork into his district.
I was just up there this weekend at Fort Necessity ~ don't get me wrong, I love that there is a first rate park and home for George Washington's initial military campaign ~ but if such a park were to be susstained by private money it would not have cost nearly as much, and probably not look nearly as good. But essentially they were working with a blank check.
Interestingly enough the tourist center is also a companion to a very nice exhibit for The National Road. The first undertaking of it's kind where federal money is used to support a project, which would seem to be of local value.
The exhibit features much of the debate of this divisive issue of the time. Curious how some of our founding fathers did battle on the topic.
Anyway, I do like that they have the center (it was nominally priced) and that it probably provides jobs and tourism to the area.
On my way out the door I spotted the big plaque with much thanks due to Representative Murtha. His name was very prominently displayed.
Way to use our dough and take credit for it, Jack.
