Ellen DeGeneres takes on Sarah Palin: But will she change people's minds?
Entertainment Weekly ^ | Oct 22, 2008 | Michael Slezak

Posted on 10/22/2008 11:53:57 PM PDT by nickcarraway

Multiple snaps in the direction of Ellen DeGeneres, who used her daytime talk show today to argue against Sarah Palin's recent announcement (during an interview with CBN) that she'd support a constitutional amendment banning same sex marriage, a position that puts her at odds with her own running mate, Senator John McCain. Ellen's case (the whole speech embedded below) is pretty simple -- "I don't like, I don't like it. I don't agree. Maybe it's because I'm gay that I think we should all be equal. But I feel that we're all equal." -- but it makes perfect sense to me. (Then again, I'm gayer than a tangerine cocktail, so of course it does.) What I'm wondering, though, is this: No matter how much Ellen's socially conservative fans dig her show, do you think her little pep talk will actually change any of their minds? And on a more personal note, has a celebrity endorsement or plea ever made you rethink your position on an important topic?

“I don’t like, I don’t like it. I don’t agree. Maybe it’s because I’m gay that I think we should all be equal. But I feel that we’re all equal.”

Ok moron. So go pass a Constitutional Amendment banning states from banning gay marriage.

Or fight a Constitutional Amendment banning gay marriage.

But no, you won’t do either of those things. Instead you’re going to elect a President that will nominate judges that will declare gay marriage a civil right.

Wait...joke’s on us.

Someone needs to tell DeGeneres that she is EQUAL Anyone seen those STRAIGHT ONLY water fountains? Restrooms? (Maybe not a bad idea...) Restaurants? What DeGeneres and her cohorts want is a special right. No go DeGeneres!

I am so sick of this B*tch and her brand of humor. I have never been a fan and have never understood her appeal.

The key is, of course, in the way that it is presented. As "equality." Who wouldn't be for equality? Only small minded bigots, right? But it's not about equality. Homosexuals are already equal. They go to school, work, vote, drive cars, pay taxes just like anyone.

But they are asking us to put aside our reason and affirm that a man inserting his sex organ in another man's rectum or two women rubbing and kissing each other is normal behavior for the human species. It cannot result in reproduction and the continuation of the species.

Religion aside, it simply has no basis in the historical, biological, and sociological definition of marriage.

Anyone that watches Ellen Degenerate most likely would not vote. At least not for McCain.

Ellen has marched for abortion to continue. Clearly, she opposes the right to life for prenatal babies.

We’re not all equal. I don’t have my very own talk show. I don’t make millions. I don’t live in an exclusive neighborhood. I don’t drive an expensive car.

Actually, yes. Anytime I hear Ben Affleck or Scarlett Johansson or any of those half-wits take a position on anything, I immediately take the opposite position, no matter what it is.

It's like a law of physics: When the perfectly stupid take a position, there can be only wisdom in its opposite.

Equal?

Ellen brothers and sister are equal.

Two men and one woman are equal.

Are you kidding, everyone watches Ellen. Here, in FR, I after the Charlie Gibson interview w/Sarah, one person even wrote that Sarah SHOULD go on Ellen! That Ellen would be nice to her.

Ellen please stop listening to the Nazi’s and pay attention to your audience. I know you are getting serious pressure from the gay Nazi’s. Tell them to drop dead. Most gays are against this nonsence and your conservative audience that watch your show will not last much longer if you keep this up.

Right. It is so sad that the homosexuals have to sit in the back of the bus, and can’t make any money because they are relegated to menial jobs. I don’t think that it is fair that they are not integrated into our schools, and must stay in their substandard homosexual schools...it is just wrong darn it! WRONG!. /SARC

Homosexual marriage is not about the freedom for some to live as they want—because they are now free to do that-—but it is about forcing an ideology on people who do not want it.

It is about the government forcing people to live AGAINST their consciences! It is a matter of taking away the rights of the majority of people, to secure a privilege for a small minority of people, who can secure that partnership by other means.

It is a matter of destroying the right of religions——not just Christianity by the way-—to teach morality in the way they see fit-—the right of freedom of speech, for people to speak out on issues they hold dear to their hearts-—and Parental rights-—the right to raise your children as you see fit.

It is a matter of taking away the freedom of Americans to think, feel and define their own morality, and define their own communities, their own government— ON the grounds that the GOVERNMENT will now define the doctrines and precepts of religious organizations. Say again: THE GOVERNMENT WILL NOW DEFINE THE DOCTRINES AND PRECEPTS OF RELIGIOUS ORGANIZATIONS!

Homosexual marriage gives the government the right to intrude their powers in the area of anciently held and practiced religious doctrines—and to restrain these doctrines, destroys all religious liberty!

Californians...pass it on....

I still think she would be. I seriously believe Ellen is getting huge pressure to do this. I would almost guarantee that she does not want to be expressing these ideas. (She may feel that gay marriage should be passed, but I don’t think she willingly wants to be the spokesperson).
