WaPo's Capehart: 'Shop-a-Long Palin' Guilty of Virtual 'Child Abuse'
NewsBusters ^ | Mark Finkelstein

Posted on 10/22/2008 5:15:51 AM PDT by governsleastgovernsbest

I suppose that mocking Republican candidates is an essential element of a Washington Post editorial writer's job description. Even so, it was jarring to hear the snide comments of WaPo editorialist Jonathan Capehart [seen right in file photo] about Sarah Palin read on the air today. Not merely did he mock her shopping habits, Capehart came very close to accusing Palin of . . . "child abuse."

Mika Brzezinski, at the Morning Joe helm with Joe Scarborough off on assignment today, led the show with the Politico report that the Republican National Committee has spent more than $150 thousand on clothes and accessories for Sarah Palin and family. Also aired was a clip of Palin describing the duties of the vice-president to a third-grader, the accuracy of which has been questioned.

All Conservatives are white trailer-trash. Us Men should wear greasy white singlets (or black singlets if you live in NZ, blue ones if in Oz) and sit around in their underpants smoking and drinking beer on the couch while watching sports. Don’t shave more than twice per week, don’t shower unless you’re gonna shave.

Female white-trailer-trash should wear tight tee-shirts and short skirts (or lycra capri pants or Adidas track pants) with 4” stiletto heels. And too much make-up. They smoke and drink beer, too.

So, given our uniform, how DARE Sarah Palin spend more than $35 for her outfit! Doesn’t she know that $150,000 can dress the entire white Trailer Trash population of South Florida, leaving plenty left over to dress all of West Auckland, too???

Crikey! And she thinks she’s going to be VP with those spendthrift habits??? How are self-respecting Conservatives going to vote for her with any conscience???

‘Strewth!

I saw this on Morning Joe today and got boiling mad! (Although I should expect this stuff by now...) Mika and some other ditsy info dame were discussing how the RNC has given Sarah money for clothes and how hypocritcal it was for her to pass herself off as a hockey mom who shops at Walmart. (They did mention in passing that the money was not public money and the clothes were going to be given to charity. That really wasn’t important.)

Of course, there was no mention of the tough, scrappy kid from the lower class Scranton neighborhood and the prices of his suits...which I’m sure he bought off the rack at Walmart...

Mike Barnicle is such a self-important non-entity, by the way.

So they're mad at Sarah for spending money? I wonder if they got mad at Michelle Obummnut for spending $600+ on lobster and caviar at the Walforf?

I saw a couple of minutes. I watch Joe a few minutes at a time a couple of times a week, check in. Not checking any more.

My blood was boiling too.

Roger that on PMSNBC’s obsession with Palin: by my count, they have been discussing “Politico: RNC appears to shell out $150 K for Palin fashion” for nearly an hour. No time for anything “negative” (aka “true”) about Obambi.

The PMSNBC/NBC bias is beyond amazing: it is sheer arogance.

I'm wondering who actually watches MSNBC now since most democrats tune into the Today Show. They are a despicable and unbalanced network that deserves to fail.

I used to monitor Politico, too. It's off my list as way too aggravating this fall. Phew. So many media outlets are falling from my list I may have to give up Left-wing news altogether.

Yes, indeed. Also no mention of the fact that the white scrappy kid from Scranton has had several decades to develop his wardrobe of Washington Suits (and the Messiah has had 5 or 10 years of Rezko and Co. money to develop his seamless robes) whereas the Hockey Mom had to hit the national spotlight overnight. Or that the Lady from San Fran has a multi-million fortune at her disposal to spend on her tasteless outfits.

Had the Hockey Mom appeared on the national stage dressed according to merely provincial tastes, she would have been lampooned as a hick. Wait a minute, she was lampooned as a hick even though the RNC spent $150,000 to clothe her in acceptable national tastefulness.

Catty women fron CNN reveal their inner ‘itchiness.

Heard a bit of it and couldn't take much more.

More interested in hearing what the Auschwitz slip up by Obama is about. Any clue?

So, Sarah Palin says that part of the Vice President’s job is to be in charge of the Senate, but the Vice-President’s actual job is to “preside over” the Senate and cast a vote to break ties. Um, I’m no rocket scientist, but isn’t presiding over pretty much the same thing as being in charge of? Simplistic, but she’s answering a third-grader here. And the media goes ballistic, equating such misinformation with child abuse. Typical. Yet Joe and Barry get a pass on every single legitimate gaffe they utter (and with Joe, it’s very nearly a daily occurrence).

Sarah would be just as attractive in a pair of faded jeans as in a designer gown. Maybe more so.

More interested in hearing what the Auschwitz slip up by Obama is about. Any clue?

Obama told an audience back in May that his uncle liberated Auschwitz in WWII. The Soviets liberated Auschwitz. Turns out a distant relative of his did participate in Patton's liberation of a camp at Ohrdruf. A gaffe nonetheless.

the Hockey Mom had to hit the national spotlight overnight

Overnight? She was governor for two years; presumably she had a perfectly good business wardrobe for that job.

These folks are nothing but cheerleaders for the Democrats. Any objective person would tell you, they are a propaganda arm of the Democratic Party.

I’m glad Newsbusters watches this junk, so that the rest of us don’t have to. It’s time for a bigger boycott of MSNBC and NBC.
