The "socialist" label that Sen. John McCain and his GOP presidential running mate Sarah Palin are trying to attach to Sen. Barack Obama actually has long and very ugly historical roots.
J. Edgar Hoover, director of the FBI from 1924 to 1972, used the term liberally to describe African Americans who spent their lives fighting for equality.
Those freedom fighters included the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr., who led the Civil Rights Movement; W.E.B. Du Bois, who in 1909 helped found the NAACP which is still the nation's oldest and largest civil rights organization; Paul Robeson, a famous singer, actor and political activist who in the 1930s became involved in national and international movements for better labor relations, peace and racial justice; and A. Philip Randolph, who founded and was the longtime head of the Brotherhood of Sleeping Car Porters and a leading advocate for civil rights for African Americans.
McCain and Palin have simply reached back in history to use an old code word for black. It set whites apart from those deemed unAmerican and those who could not be trusted during the communism scare.

Their leader was... well at the end... crispy, too
Although he always denied it, the CP-USA has acknowleded him as a member.
And like W.E.B. Du Bois (who did declare his own membership), Robeson was awarded the Stalin/Lenin Peace Prize
Of course they were. The Soviets fought the White Russians in the 1918-21 Russian Civil War.
“Hoover called plenty of people commies. And Robeson was a Stalinist. Case closed.”
Robeson sure was an admirer of the USSR, his recording of the Soviet national anthem can be found on Youtube. Most of the people Hoover (and Sen. McCarthy) called Commies really WERE Commies!!
Hmmmmmm.
And these ladies are about as white as you can get, and their country is socialist too.
Swedish volleyball players,Karin Lundquist and Angelica Ljungquist.
But ol' Lewis here may have just topped the chart.
The old axiom about "better to be silent and thought a fool than to speak out and remove all doubt" comes to mind.
Only an ignorant racist hack could write a piece like this.
Of course they were. The Soviets fought the White Russians in the 1918-21 Russian Civil War.
The combatants:
The author’s right. It’s not fair to call DuBois and Robeson socialists. They were in fact, Communists (supporters of the Third International, not the moderate Western European Second International that became Social Democrats).
Robeson himself was such a supporter of Stalin that he advocated all non-Stalinists to be shot. He never apologized either. When he visited the Soviet Union, he got the red carpet treatment. He was the Soviet propagandists’ number one useful idiot in America.
Obama himself might be a communist and not just a socialist. He’s certainly to the left of the French, British (Labour), and German (Social Democratic) Socialist parties.
Heh, that would be news to the Russians. For the most part, they really do not like black people.
He must hate billiards then.
To paraphrase Martin Lawrence, the WHITE ball smacks all the colored balls into the pockets and then smashes the BLACK ball into the hole at the very end.
Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar...
I thought that was vodka and kahlua.

Is it just me, or does it seem as though the majority of Blacks are begging us to become racists???
This junk is wearing me out.
Heh, that would be news to the Russians. For the most part, they really do not like black people.
Who's talkin' about "people". ;-)
See Post 129.
Okay then...we’ll skip “socialist” and go straight to COMMUNIST...
Put the TRUE face on it, so we know what the enemy really is.
Howzzat for a code word?
Thanks for psoting the pic, tx_eggman!
“...Hmmmmmmm...”
Ahh, The “Buckwheat and Skeletor Hour”
One full hour of whining, pointing fingers, ignoring fact and logic, and labeling anything remotely conservative “racist”.
Now THAT’s Entertainment!!!!
