Actually, he predates Carville. Carville only became prominent after Clinton’s election. IIRC, he was a crony of former Baton Rouge mayor and LSU quarterback, the late Pat Screen.

Cook is from North Louisiana and hitched his wagon to the J. Bennett Johnson gang. I don’t ever recall Cook and Carville being allied so much, except to the extent that all Louisiana Democrats hung around with Edwin Edwards.

Johnson must not have been as corrupt as the usual Louisiana Democrat, I don’t remember any scandals about him!
