In 2000, another weird source (complete nutball Tom Connolly from Maine) publicized W's drunk driving arrest that occurred in the 70's.

Connolly himself was arrested a few years later for dressing like Osama bin Laden and holding a fake gun on the side of a highway in Maine.

I guess my point is that even weird sources can have an impact.
