But conservatives need to face the fact that Barack Obama has promised profound systemic changes that will be irreversible—absolutely permanent alterations of our economy and government where there is no chance at all that Republican office-holders of the future could in any way repair the damage.

I might buy this if I thought socialism was a social order that had a rational basis and was capable of standing on its own for the long term.

It simply does not work over the long term. It offers bribes and a pleasing dialectic of utopia that is contrary to human nature.

If we do not believe our philosophy can survive Barack Obama then it is already dead regardless of who wins.

Your last line is a good point, however what Medved talks about is Obama cultivating future Democrat voters by making them dependents on the state.
