Landslide: necessary and possible [Communist Party USA rag virtually endorses the Democrats]
People's Weekly World ^ | October 17, 2008 | Editorial Board

Posted on 10/20/2008 8:40:09 AM PDT by Ebenezer

Yes, the neoconservatives are reading the writing on the wall. Polls show voters nationally and in battleground states rejecting the policies of the Bush administration and congressional Republicans, and growing awareness that the McCain-Palin ticket is a continuation of the same.

Many believe there is cause for singing, not lullabies or songs of triumph, but songs of struggle, determination, and yes, unity and hope: We Shall Overcome, Solidarity Forever, De Colores. Because their victory is not won yet. Tyrants are escalating their hatemongering to create fear and division so they can snatch victory from the jaws of defeat.

Nevertheless, tens of millions have become engaged in the politics of change and hope and tens of millions more can be reached by Nov. 4.

For a year this newspaper has called for building for a landslide because it is a necessary step to reverse the damage we have suffered from 30 years of far-right dominance.

A landslide in the Electoral College and the popular vote will establish a mandate and the political leverage to make real change. A 60-vote Senate Democratic majority could prevent obstruction by filibuster. And there are 11 key Senate races that could make such a majority.

The damage cannot be undone all at once. It will take a change of direction with tangible gains that build greater engagement and unity for deeper transformations. The extreme right-wing backlash being promoted by the McCain-Palin campaign will not stop even with defeat at the polls. If defeated, it will try to frustrate any real change in policy by obstructionism or in the courts.

This newspaper has often said, “Every vote counts” and “Vote as if your life depended on it — because it does.” And so it is for this election.

As a labor leader recently urged, “Volunteer to phone bank, canvass neighborhoods, pass out fliers and bend the ears of your family members, friends and co-workers.” It’s all about turnout, turnout, turnout.

With such unity and struggle, tyrants cannot stand.

“Polls show voters nationally and in battleground states rejecting the policies of the Bush administration and congressional Republicans, and growing awareness that the McCain-Palin ticket is a continuation of the same.”

Something that occured to me a few nights ago was “Do any of these polls take into account military votes?” I’m willing to bet they don’t and that could turn out to be what finally decides this election.

With the winds of the dialectic in his sails, how can Obama fail to gain victory for real progress?

Onwards to the Final Victory, comrades!

I would like to remind you of some thoughts from Norman Thomas - the former ‘perennial’ candidate of the American Socialist-Communists...

1. He decided he no longer needed to run for President as the Democrats had adopted all of his campaign planks.

2. He is the first to use the term ‘Wars of Distraction’ - a favorite line of Sen Obama.

Communist Party USA rag virtually endorses the Democrats

I wonder if anyone lately can distinguish between the liberals, like Obama, and what communism espouses?

Methinks that communists and communism are already embedded within the democratic party. So, it shouldn't come as a surprise that a communist rag or the communist party would endorse Obama. If they had actually endorsed anyone else, they would've been going against one of their own.

I apologize, I pulled from the wrong page ...
It was Barbara Ehrenreich, noted socialist and Obama supporter, who used the term ‘wars of distraction’ in 1991.

With apologies to those who are familiar with this:

Statement from Communist Party USA (CPUSA):

“The Communist Party USA views the 2008 elections as a tremendous opportunity to defeat the policies of the right-wing Republicans and to move our country in a new progressive direction.

The record turnout in the Democratic Presidential primary races shows that millions of voters, including millions of new voters, are using this election to bring about real change. We wholeheartedly agree with them.”

I agree that some don’t like the Bush Admin and the possibility of a McCain Admin, But are they willing to throw this country away rather than reform the Administration. Obama will throw this country to the wolves and even democrats will be hurting.

I read that policy statement myself, and I thank you for sharing it with fellow FReepers.

Isn’t it scary that people who espouse an ideology that produced the likes of Lenin, Stalin, Mao, and Castro are hoping for a Democrat victory next month? This speaks volumes about the ideological bankruptcy of the Jackass Party.

“This speaks volumes about the ideological bankruptcy of the Jackass Party.”

Indeed. You should hear the surprise in some of my older relatives’ voices right now as they begin to understand fully the party has been hijacked. This election certainly has been an eye-opener for a great many - millions, it would seem.

This may be why ACORN and the like are corrupting the registration rolls, Stone comes out with his propaganda piece weeks before voting and the media is being more blatant with its bias than usual.

They are trying to create a victory with a large margin so Obama can claim a mandate from which he will launch a New Deal that FDR wouldn’t have dared attempt.
