They gave me a new perspective on the men who served and died in these campaigns. That 25% figure for draftees who served in Vietnam sure flies in the face of the misinformation you generally hear.
That 30% figure of draftees to non-draftee deaths was a surprise to me as well. 70% of the men who died in Vietnam had volunteered to go. That is amazing.
Here is a link to those figures I gave you, some other draft facts are that in 1970 we drafted only 20,000 more men than we did in 1958, and the 1970 figure was 20,000 fewer than we drafted in 1946, the last draftee was inducted on June 30, 1973.
Some of the draftees are still in the army.
