McCain Compares Obama's Redistribution of Wealth to Socialism
Republican presidential nominee John McCain is claiming Barack Obama's plan to redistribute wealth represents socialism.
McCain made the charge about his Democratic rival on "Fox News Sunday."
McCain was referring to a recent comment Obama made to a prospective voter in northern Ohio who has been dubbed "Joe the Plumber." The man had asked Obama if his taxes would go up if his plumbing business made more than $250,000 in annual income.
McCain said his economic plan focuses on job creation to, "get our country's economy out of the ditch." The Arizona senator also criticized the way Obama is financing his presidential campaign. He said unlimited amounts of money in big political campaigns can lead to scandal.
McCain said Obama not only broke his word in deciding not to use public campaign financing, he says there are, "a lot of strange things going on in this campaign." McCain claims there are $200-million in Obama campaign contributions that have not been reported.
Although he is trailing in the latest polls, McCain told "Fox News Sunday," "I've been the underdog in a number of races and we're very happy with the way the campaign is going." He said he thinks the McCain/Palin ticket has momentum.
He expressly intends to increase welfare payments to those who currently pay no income taxes (misnamed earned income credits), and he intends to penalize those who are successful in producing enough to earn more than $250,000 per year.
A majority of Americans can support:
- having taxes be high enough to fund certain legitimate needs of government (defined too broadly, however)
- having certain basic social services funded centrally, such as food stamps and Medicaid for those unable to provide them for themselves and their children
- having high earners pay more than low earners
However, there is not broad and deep support among Americans in general for taxing and for raising taxes on one group of people to write direct welfare checks in increasing amounts to transfer wealth to people who already pay no taxes, calling the payments "tax credits."
Obama = radical leftism = Socialism, not to mention further deep embedding of corruption in the Executive, Judicial and Legislative branches of our once proud Country. Defeat Senator Government; Senator Socialist Government.
Head off the Socialist Express, which so far has been successfully operating off-radar, in Stealth Mode. Shine the light on the socialists. De-rail the Obamanation Train.
Correction: America is STILL a proud country. But that will become more difficult if we have a socialist at the head, and at the head of our military.
There is absolutely no way someone like me, that pays taxes, will pay less with 0bama’s tax plan. No. Way.
I think he tries to get away with not mentioning that he’ll let the Bush tax cuts expire, then “cut” our taxes by maybe 1% after that.
If enough Americans arent motivated to vote against a declared socialist for POTUS, who is also an unaccomplished radical, for CIC, we are simply doomed.
Redistribution of wealth (read theft) is ALWAYS Socialism! Whether done by Adolf, Vladimir, Fidel or Hussein (both of them).
Couldn’t McCain have simply called the Zero a dangerous Marxist and been done with it?
Obama’s retribution of wealth - there more accurate.
Comparing it to socialism?
We we so politically correct that we can’t call a duck a duck?
It isn’t like socialism. It IS socialism.
They’re both guilty of redistribution of wealth at this point. From the middle class to the wall street bailout class.
It’s not a claim. It’s a fact.
fixed tag line
$250K is an arbitrary number. It could easily be $50K. And I don’t care what Obama says. I know what the liberal nutjobbers in the Congress think and that is that anyone who pays federal income taxes should pay more. Let’s also not forget that Obama wants to raise capital gains tax rates, in addition to letting the Bush tax cuts expire.
A looming Obama tax increase is a winning issue for McCain. It provides a clear distinction between Obama and McCain. People just lost a lot of wealth, at least on paper, between any equity investments and the value of their homes over the last few years. Now the cost of the government to them is going to go up? So much for making government “cool again”.
That's not quite true, although that was my first reaction as well.
Socialism is government ownership of the means of production, and by extension every other enterprise as well. We are getting that, from a Republican administration, with the bailout of the banks and auto companies.
Direct transfer of wealth, "From each according to his ability, to each according to his needs",that is Marxism IOW, it's a step beyond Socialism, right to Communism.
