Rush Limbaugh to Politico on Powell's Endorsement "Rush Limbaugh suggested Powell's move was very much related to Obama's status as the first African-American with a chance to become president." "'Secretary Powell says his endorsement is not about race,' Limbaugh wrote in an email. 'OK, fine. I am now researching his past endorsements to see if I can find all the inexperienced, very liberal, white candidates he has endorsed. I'll let you know what I come up with.'" "'I was also unaware of his dislike for John Roberts, Clarence Thomas, Samuel Alito, Anthony Kennedy and Antonin Scalia. I guess he also regrets Reagan and Bush making HIM a 4-star and Secretary of State AND appointing his son to head the FCC. Yes, let's hear it for transformational figures.'"

So his father was not Kenyan?
If my mother was white and my father was black, making the contribution to my race 50%/50% how does that automatically make me black? Isn't it an even split?
What if my mother was Italian and my father was Swedish, would that make me Italian or Swedish?
Would I get to pick how I identify myself, or is there some rule on this that I'm not aware of that says I have to be one or the other?
Or, for those who might say its only about skin color and race, not nationality, how about if my mom is black and my father brown skinned and from India? Am I black? Or, am I brown skinned Indian? And, who would make that decision for me?
Who actually makes that call about how I'm to be categorized on the big list of teams in the sky. Is it my choice or am I obligated to follow a rule written down somewhere?
What if I am 50% white and 50% black and I decide at a personal level, for social, spiritual, political or any other reason, to classify and identify myself and my race as white? I mean I am 50%/50% and there are no more black genes floating around in DNA soup than there are white genes... isn't it the same at 50%/50%? Would it be appropriate to consider myself white, or do I not get to make that choice even though I'm exactly 50% white and 50% black.
And, how and where did those rules come about?
Now, here's where it gets dicey....
What if my grandma was white and my grandpa was black and my mom and dad are both white. Do I get to call my self black because I have 25% black DNA in my lineage? Where exactly is the percentage break point where you have no choice? Is it 67% black, 43 1/2% black, 17% black, or 2% black? And, who sets that percentage clarity for us so that we don't make a mistake and misrepresent ourselves to society?
My family immigrated to this country in the early 1900s from southern Europe. I have relatives in my family that literally have darker skin than either Barack Obama or Colin Powell. And, everyone in my family are considered by our society to be white. It just seems that the color of a person's skin and/or the lineage of their heritage as labeled by who ever is responsible for such things is all so meaningless, isn't it? Then why to we keep hearing so much about it in this election?
The truth is that if Barack Obama is elected President (which I do not think will happen and it has nothing to do with the color of his skin or his race) Mr Obama will make history, for sure.
He will be the first President of the United States to be 50% white and 50% black.
Then also, there will come a time in our country's history when a black man or woman, who's mom was 100% black and who's dad was 100% black will become President of the United States. Its just a shame that he or she will be considered by the world as the second black person to be elected to this high office if Obama wins this one... It just doesn't seem right does it?
If the Mccain campaign were smart, they would say they understood Powells endorsement of Obama because Powell was a trailblazer himself in terms of breaking down racial barriers. However, his reasoning leaves a lot to be desired given Obamas lack of experience and achievement
I think it is an apt endorsement, which follows on the heels of his endorsement of the Sen. Stevens.
Absolutely and thats why Powell endorsed him now. I’d say Obamas own internal polls aren’t looking so good.
Here's one...and I must own up to a technical error in referring to "war crimes" (I was posting strictly from memory, rather than citing him word-for-word).
So, my apologies for shooting from the hip.
Having said that, I don't think there's much of a distinction, be it war crimes or constitutional "violations." Either way it's quite chilling, and I'm surmising what's said in a campaign is only a morsel of what we'll see once they actually have the power.
The Dems started criminalizing policy back during the Nixon years, and with an Obama presidency and unbridled congress, we can only expect a full-blown assault, criminal and otherwise, on their only credible opposition.
Rush is right!
LOL That’s a polite way of putting it.
We could have decimated the entire Iraqi Military back then and forced Saddam out if Powell had the balls. He didn't, and years later we have 4000 Brave Young Military Men who have paid the ultimate price for Powell's P.C. cowardice...
Flame away, but that's how I feel about it. Too bad we didn't have a General Petraeus back in 1991.
No,you are not naive.Simply your friend is stupid.
I could have said, “Anyone who disagrees with me is an idiot,” but that wouldn’t have sounded as nice :-). It would be more accurate to say, “Anyone who disagrees with Thomas Sowell (except on details) is an idiot,” since I almost always rethink my opinion if I don’t agree with Dr. Sowell.
Perhaps blacks are consumed with racism because they live it.
Racism is a fact. If it is not directed at you, and you are not racist, you don’t believe in it.
I live with descrimination as well. A discrimination that is denied by the groups perpetuating it. I am the rural, hardworking, God fearing, hetrosexual, patriotic, gun toting individule, that the Democrats hate. I have lived their hatred, and been subjected to their dissmissive, marginalization. It is real, no matter how they deny it.
Powell endorsed Obama because the two are ideologically aligned. Start with abortion, among the most fundamental of all issues.
Meet Benedict Powell -- cut from the same cloth.
Funny that Powell turns out to be the real General Betrayus.
Ys know...the messiah’s campaign is pushing race relations back by decades.
