“I got my middle name from somebody who didn’t think I would ever run for president,” he said.

Thanks, certainly a bit less odd that my misremembered “whoever named me”.

In point of fact, didn’t he chose his own name after Lolo Soetoro gave him up?

Horse-hockey. It's a Arabic word meaning "he who is blessed," which is itself a corruption of the Hebrew word baruch, which means the same thing.
