A type of chimpanzee known to use sex for greetings, reconciliations, and favors may not be all about peace, love, and understanding after all. A new study reveals that some bonobosone of humankind's closest genetic relativeshunt and eat other primates. Groups of the endangered chimpanzee subspecies were observed stalking, chasing, and killing monkeys they later consumed.

"The second I read this, I thought: Oh good, finally!" said primatologist Elizabeth Lonsdorf of the Lincoln Park Zoo in Chicago.
"Bonobos being so peaceful never sat well with me," said Lonsdorf, who was not involved with the study.
"We see all species of captive apes, including bonobos, hunting animals, like squirrels, that wander into their enclosures. I was just waiting for something like this to come up," she said.

So they are more like us then we thought.
No surprise. We knew bonobos were smelly barefooted peacefreakin’ hippies. Given a little engineering they would be baby-killers and ecoterrorists.
..sort of like the MSM when someone disagrees with "the agenda"
I didn’t know ACORN was there too!
LOL! That explains one of the DUmmies.
Check to see if they’re registered to vote.
‘Cheetah’ was found to be registered in all 57 states
"That's a good looking chimpanzee." ~ Bill Clinton
Somebody ALWAYS beats me to the best punch line. LOL
LOL... Not to be confused with the Cheetah Girls?
I have never heard of an Bonobo.
The lefty hippie crowd were always going on about the bonobos and how their matriarchal society is better than our patriarchy. Nice to see them get their comeuppance.
The New Yorker had a huge article about these creatures a couple of years ago. Made ‘em out to be just like Democrats.
Sounds like liberals to me.
Has ACORN registered these bonobos to vote yet?
Maybe it’s just me but it wasn’t too many years ago that I found out chimps eat meat.
Up until that time everything I saw on TV, etc. showed them on a vegetarian diet with a few ants, grubs occasional egg.
Is a sub-species of Chimp. VERY endangered.
I saw a film (from San Diego Zoo perhaps?) some years ago that still makes me laugh when I think about it.
Is feeding time. Handlers throw in some leaf-bearing branches. A largish male grabs one and carries it off to the corner to eat. A female tries to grab some from him, he corrects her, she backs away. So she submissively crawls back, not trying to grab the food, lays down in front of him and spreads her legs. He looks down and immediately has sex with her. The expression on his face is priceless, eyes rolling back and all. They finish quickly and, while he’s sitting enjoying the after-glow, she picks up the branch and walks away.
It was the first example recorded, supposedly, of an animal using sex for other-than procreation.
One of the lib whackos who sit for months watching the apes, witnessed a chimp killing and eating its child. Was surprised they recorded it, since at the time, they were trying to tell us how wonderful the chimps were and how we should be like them.
