The source who came to Shinuiju on the 9th said in a telephone interview with the Daily NK that, “The rumor that the General’s health condition is bad is circulating now among Pyongyang residents.” He expressed the atmosphere of Pyongyang, saying that, “General workers say these days say, ‘What’s happened [to the General]?,’ or ‘He is probably sick,’ because the general’s instructions, which used to be delivered to the people at least every two weeks, has not come out for about two months.” He said that the General’s Instruction has not been announced since late August. According to him, there had not been cases in which the instructions did not appear in the residents’ lectures for almost two months except when Kim Jong Il has visited China or Russia. Listening to North Korean radio right now as we freep, 12:10 a.m. local Sunday a.m., on the AM band. Reception fair (not yet winter for best reception). Nothing out of the ordinary. Full male chorus Korean Peoples Army with full ensemble, military martial music, nothing out of the ordinary, sounds like a normal Saturday night at midnight on North Korean radio. No somber music, just the usual laudatory praise of Kim Jong il. Mixed in with the sweet voiced solos of chirping type kipmujo female singers with guitar, electone and bass backup.
