Iraqi Veterans Group Endorses Jim Gilmore for U.S. Senate Group met with both candidates in effort to clarify positions
Richmond Today, the IFVPP, announced their endorsement of former Governor and Army Veteran, Jim Gilmore for the United States Senate.
Speaking of the endorsement, Rusty McGuire, chairman of the IFVPP said, after meeting with both candidates it was crystal clear who best supported our interest as Iraqi Freedom Veterans.
The endorsement was based on the following criteria:
- Operation Iraqi Freedom: Many of the members of IFVPP were wounded in Iraq and care strongly about our commitment in Iraq. Jim Gilmore readily admits his support of the surge and commanders on the ground.
- Understanding Terrorism: In 1999, Jim Gilmore chaired an advisory committee to the President of the United States on the risks to the homeland from domestic terrorism. Prior to 9/11, this committee, which came to be known as the Gilmore Commission, set forth a majority of the homeland security recommendations that were adopted post 9/11.
- Service to our Country: Like most of the members of the IFVPP, Jim Gilmore volunteered to put on a uniform and serve our country. Gilmore served in the Army during the Vietnam War era focusing on counter intelligence.
IFVPP, is a group of Iraqi veterans who work together to preserve the memory of veterans of Operation Iraqi Freedom. Recently, they led the charge to establish an Iraqi Freedom Veterans License Plate in Virginia.

Don’t want to rain on this parade but this race was over once Warner decided to run for senate.
If anyone sees what Warner said about homeschoolers and christians and votes for him anyway, then nothing will ever change their sick mind.
This is part of the problem. What has happened to the Virginia GOP? This race isn’t over till it is over.
Of course you do.
I applaud all your hard work!
Stop crapping on Gilmore. He’s been pretty effective at showing how extreme Warner actually is.
Hey didn’t mean to offend- Gilmore seems like a perfectly capable guy. But the polling numbers just haven’t been there for him because for some reason Warner is very popular.
Look you guys in Virginia may have a better sense for the situation on the ground. But from my perspective here in Minnesota (where I had to watch Congressman Mark Kennedy go down in flames in 2006 against Klobuchar) it seems like Gilmore is in a similar position.
That was because Kennedy was a flaming idiot. Klobuchar was popular in an anti-incumbent year, and Republicans were to blame for everything. And Kennedy didn’t help himself.
I used to live in what is now the 6th district (eastern Stearns County). It’s hardcore Coleman there, especially in St. Cloud.
Two veterans groups endorse Gilmore for Senate (”don’t ask, don’t tell”)
