Levi Stubbs, who sang on Motown band the Four Tops' biggest hits, has died at his home in Detroit aged 72.

The singer, who had not toured with the group for several years because of ill health, passed away in his sleep.

Abdul Fakir is the only surviving original member of the group, who have sold more than 50 million records.

The Detroit band became one of Motown Records' biggest successes, scoring hits including Bernadette and Reach Out (I'll Be There).

Founding members Lawrence Payton and Obie Benson died in 1997 and 2005 respectively.

RIP. Very talented man and a class act.

Married to one woman for 48 years and raised five kids.

BTW, I believe the surviving member, Fakir, was born to one of the very first Nation Of Islam converts, back when it was still known as The Lost Found Nation Of Islam In The Wilderness Of North America and at almost the exact same time when its mysterious founder Wallace Fard Muhammad (Wallace Dodd Ford)disappeared and was replaced by Elijah Muhammad.

Farewell to a gentleman and a true professional. They always gave their audiences a first class show.

If memory serves he also did the voice for Audrey II, the plant in the movie version of “Little Shop of Horrors”. Had some great songs in that as well.

Has everyone here heard “Keeper of the Castle”? Wonderful conservative message, and wonderful funk-groove.

Just to combine and add more tributes to Mr. Stubbs and the Tops.

They were true talent, and none better than Levi Stubbs.

RIP Levi and thanks for the music.

Alright, who brought up "Bernadette" I'll have that in my head for 3 weeks. But, that's a good thing.

One hell of a voice. “Bernadette” never fails to put shivers down my spine. RIP Mr. Stubbs. Say hello to Otis Redding for me.
