San Francisco, CA (AP) -- Air quality regulators are clamping down on wood burning stoves and fireplaces between November and February in the Bay area.

Regulators say during the cooler months, wood burning in households produces one-third of the total fine particulate matter in the air.

Regulators expect 15 to 20 spare the air days this winter. Violators face fines up to $1,000 a day.

Burning wood fires and stoves in the summer will still be allowed.

This article reminds me that I need to replace the 30 weight summer air in my car tires with 20 weight winter air.

I’m sick of these nanny state bastards. I’m starting an initiative to outlaw any banning of wood stoves and fireplaces for any reason in California. I’ll be collecting signatures to put it on the 2010 ballot.

Why can’t we kick California out of the Union?

The coldest winter I ever spent was a summer in San Francisco. — Mark Twain (1835 - 1910)

I swear these people are insane. Can’t use electricity because that burns oil or coal. Can’t use electricity from nuclear plants. And now, you can’t even go old school and burn wood.

One more reason not to live in the Bay Area.

No oil
No coal
No wood
No nukes

Just live in a cave, eat berries, and die.

From the above source:

Searches of Twain writings, private letters, and other publications fail to locate this witticism. The closest resemblance to it appears in an 1879 letter in which Twain quoted a wag who, when asked if he'd ever seen such a cold winter, replied, "Yes, last summer." Twain then added his own comment, "I judge he spent his summer in Paris." (Twain's rejoinder is an example of /treppenwitz/ ? the wit of the stairway, those brilliant comebacks one thinks of only long after the moment has passed.)

Mark Twain uttered a great many memorable lines during his lifetime, but he has also had many a saying attributed to him that he never gave voice to. Another weather-related quote wrongly credited to Twain is the quip that "Everyone talks about the weather, but nobody does anything about it." (However, Twain /did/ say "If you don't like the weather in New England, just wait a few minutes.")

I don’t see a problem here. It’s San Francisco!!

For all I care, they can burn old newspapers in old barrels out on the street.

I do think that we should show some compassion and send these folks free body bags for their dead.... it might help keep the stench down in that third world country. They have made their bed, they can sleep in it.

I do have empathy for the conservatives that live down there. I found it a very interesting place when I visited it around 35 years ago.... it’s certainly a shame to see what that place has become... but hey, Seattle is on a fast track to catch up with them.

No such ban on spray painting graffiti due to environmental impacts.

No, no, no ... you need heavier air for winter driving ..... the better traction factor and all that.

Is this what taxpayer dollars are going for? Some stupid people who do nothing all day except sit around and make up stuff.

But, but ... won’t the air be more likely to freeze then and shred my tires resulting in pollution, possible death and mayhem to protected species, increased global warming and deep hurt to Mother Gaia? :^O

[Btw, I’ve learned that comrades who live in the Peoples Democratic Republic of San Francisko like it when you simply refer to their nest as “Frisco”!]
