I believe the phrase “lock and load” and ‘lock, stock, and barrel” originally referred to flint lock weapons. I assure you that I will be using more modern weapons if push comes to shove. I will have my Kentucky Percussion Rifle loaded however. ;0)

Flintlock weapons were invented in the early 1630’s and used in the US Revolution, long before the US Marines. Gee, I wonder were the Marines got the expression?
