VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35, Orlando) -- She's only 12 years old but Ashleigh Jones is feeling the heat of this election year.
That’s because the seventh grader at New Smyrna Beach Middle School was called a racist by classmates for wearing a pro-Sarah Palin t-shirt.
Jones is volunteering at the Republican Headquarters in New Smyrna Beach. The Palin t-shirt was a gift from her fellow volunteers.
But when she wore it to school she learned just how tough politics can be.
“Some of the students were calling me racist because I was Caucasian,” she said. “I wanted the Caucasian man to win. And I told them that’s not true. It’s my freedom of speech, it’s my opinion.”
Jones' parents say they aren't mad at the school they just want everyone including their daughter to voice their opinion constructively.
Officials with Volusia County Schools said there were no referrals or complaints to the office about this incident.
Ashleigh said that more of her friends are expressing their views by wearing political t-shirts and she plans to wear hers again.
Please don’t be too hard on her. She is a young person who, judging by her first post, obviously sees the danger of the Obama brainwashing that is going on nationwide. The standards in education today have slipped horribly to the point where youth don’t even see the importance of using proper grammar and spelling in order to get people to take them seriously. I have no doubt that it is true that this young person has a 4.0 GPA. Whereas I am a great fan of proper grammar and spelling, it doesn’t help to berate someone about it or to doubt their honesty or sincerity because of it. I wish this young person well in her quest for truth.

Schools are in worse shape than I thought if the kids can't tell the difference between a man and a woman. She wears a pro-Palin shirt and is accused of being a racist cause she wants the white MAN to win?

I’d give you the benfit of the doubt that perhaps your shift key was stuck, explaining the lack of capitalization.
But when you spell “you” as “u”, I know I’m dealing with either a pre-teen or a twit.

In teen lingo that this person would understand, it’s called *epic fail*. *She hits* certainly didn’t out anything anyone in grammar or spelling.
By her own claims, she’s a 4.0 COLLEGE grad who’s working design engineering; which puts the age of said engineer at at least 22, minimum. There’s too big of a disconnect there.
I have a teenaged daughter and I see how they text and think and they’re not even that bad.

I am so glad Sassy is home schooled now. I can only imagine the fights she would get into over this BS if she was in public school. Many of my neighbors hide the election & the news from their children. I wasn’t shielded from what happens in life & neither is Sassy. She makes her own mind up & does it very well. I remember the fake elections we would have in school & I hated them. Seems to me that the racist McCain haters ought to have been spoken to by the principal. Just shaking my head again...

For Sassy’s music lesson next week you should do Music Man. Make her a band leader’s outfit and give her a plunger and she can go up and down the block singing “76 trombones in the big parade...” EFG

That’s great, but it doesn’t excuse you from your “ghetto typing”.
Look around this forum, you will see a level of self-respect and respect for the forum found nowhere else on the internet.
I, and others will routinely skip over your posts if you continue to type in that manner. That manner of typing/communication is no better than graffitti. It’s an anonymous forum, yes, but if you don’t make an effort to use proper spelling and grammar, don’t expect people to take you seriously, no matter how studious you are.
