VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35, Orlando) -- She's only 12 years old but Ashleigh Jones is feeling the heat of this election year.
That’s because the seventh grader at New Smyrna Beach Middle School was called a racist by classmates for wearing a pro-Sarah Palin t-shirt.
Jones is volunteering at the Republican Headquarters in New Smyrna Beach. The Palin t-shirt was a gift from her fellow volunteers.
But when she wore it to school she learned just how tough politics can be.
“Some of the students were calling me racist because I was Caucasian,” she said. “I wanted the Caucasian man to win. And I told them that’s not true. It’s my freedom of speech, it’s my opinion.”
Jones' parents say they aren't mad at the school they just want everyone including their daughter to voice their opinion constructively.
Officials with Volusia County Schools said there were no referrals or complaints to the office about this incident.
Ashleigh said that more of her friends are expressing their views by wearing political t-shirts and she plans to wear hers again.

My friend’s sons attend that school...I am most certain that they did not join in hurling the mindless abuse...Believe it or not, that school is one of the 2 best in the entire county-wide school district according to the all-hallowed test scores...
My friend’s five year old came back from pre-school singing “WE LOVE OBAMA...OBAMA IS GREAT over and over again.” My friend started crying. He goes to a christian pre-school.
Homeschooling should offset the brainwashing that is going on in the taxpayer supported schools.
I know it's a girl but when I came against adversity my dad always said,"That's what puts hair on your chest". Boy, am I hairy, but very, very strong in times of adversity.This kid looks like she's not backing down. You go girl!

Yes, homeschoolers are racist and homophobic because they don’t indoctrinate their kids in the PC of the day.
Teaching them to write proper English might be a good start.
My daughter wore a McCain shirt(the Obama image except it is MCain and it says “hero” instead of “hope”) to school and was confronted by a flock of girls. She advised them to have a Coke and a smile and just deal with it.
She was confronted with logic gems such as “Other people were POW’s too”. Really?

Seriously, it is the same sort of pathetic ignorance exhibited in the past by people (I knew some of them myself) who hated Jews because,”They killed Jesus”. The fact that 2000 years had passed since the alleged crime seemed to mean nothing, the descendants were still guilty. We have people busily sowing the same hate against all caucasians even though most are not even descendants of slaveholders, let alone slaveholders themselves.
I don’t know what to advise when we have people who consider themselves to be suffering still because of slavery yet the same people want to follow Islam which is the religion of slavetraders. The same people worship the Democratic party which has long been the party of racism despite all claims to the contrary.
