VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35, Orlando) -- She's only 12 years old but Ashleigh Jones is feeling the heat of this election year.
Thats because the seventh grader at New Smyrna Beach Middle School was called a racist by classmates for wearing a pro-Sarah Palin t-shirt.
Jones is volunteering at the Republican Headquarters in New Smyrna Beach. The Palin t-shirt was a gift from her fellow volunteers.
But when she wore it to school she learned just how tough politics can be.
Some of the students were calling me racist because I was Caucasian, she said. I wanted the Caucasian man to win. And I told them thats not true. Its my freedom of speech, its my opinion.
Jones' parents say they aren't mad at the school they just want everyone including their daughter to voice their opinion constructively.
Officials with Volusia County Schools said there were no referrals or complaints to the office about this incident.
Ashleigh said that more of her friends are expressing their views by wearing political t-shirts and she plans to wear hers again.
Their dress code probably permits Che Gueverra T-shirts only.
“Some of the students were calling me racist because I was Caucasian,”
Welcome to the adult world kid.
“Where do you think these 12-13 year olds got their hate for Sarah Palin??”
Their parents who are either self loathing or closet black panthers.
Remember, All animals are equal-but some are more equal than others.
I'm making Animal Farm mandatory reading for my kids this month.
That’s the wrong image.
I could care less what people say.
If they decide to physically attack me though, I will shoot to kill.
“I’m making Animal Farm mandatory reading for my kids this month.”
You know what — you are absolutely right...we have that video...guess what we are watching tomorrow night.
Thanks for reminding me about that.
True story from two weeks ago at my sister-in-law’s wedding...
We’re in the car with two of my nieces and somehow the subject of the elections came up. My one 10-year-old niece asked us “Who are you voting for?” We replied that it would be “McCain/Palin”. And she responded, “But don’t you care about the schools?” And yes, she goes to public school, in NY.
Ashleigh said that more of her friends are expressing their views by wearing political t-shirts and she plans to wear hers again.
Sounds like she has a good head on her shoulders to me. Rather "bucked up" and all that.
Right, I figured that . . . .
I read that the vid wasn’t as good as the book. But aren’t there a couple of versions of it out? One from the 60’s or 70’s and a more recent one?
What can I say? I’m old school. (eh!)
These little classmates can just shut the H___ up. I’m sick and tired of decent people being called “racist” by charlatans, crooks, and totalitarians.
You can’t keep real freedom down! Go girl go!
Hey-I was accused of racism at work because I mentioned the Jena 6 incident as being “stupid”. 6 month investigation, interviews, interrogations the whole nine yards.
Welcome to the world of being a conservative.....
The big Zero is the most divisive candidate to run for President in the history of America.
Exactly! It’s not the color of his skin, it’s the color of his politics!
My oldest is 11, but when he was in kindergarten he got into a discussion with a black female classmate about George Bush. She exclaimed, “George Bush! He’s a bad man!” My son shot back, “He’s not bad. He’s a Republican!”
But the sad part is that these kids get a daily dose of garbage from their TEACHERS, probably more there than their parents.
Oh, yes, and more important animals eat lobster, champagne, & Iranian caviar.
My 16 year old daughter was called a “sheep” by some of her classmates because she had a McCain sticker on her notebook (ironic, since 99.9% of her classmates would vote for Obama if they could). They also called her a racist (equally ironic, since her best girlfriend is black and her boyfriend is Puerto Rican). She put a 2nd McCain sticker on her notebook this morning before school...I’m proud of her spunk.
