Barnicle: Palin Candidacy 'An Insult to Intelligence'
NewsBusters ^ | Mark Finkelstein

Posted on 10/17/2008 4:23:37 AM PDT by governsleastgovernsbest

Has Mike Barnicle called Sarah Palin stupid? Seems that way. In a Huffington Post column that Mika Brzezinski read on today's Morning Joe, Barnicle, referring to Palin, wrote of the:

"preposterous pronouncements of a woman whose candidacy is an insult to intelligence."

Let's deconstruct. The normal formulation is to speak of something being an "insult to our intelligence" in the sense of asserting something that is obviously unbelievable. For example, you might say Barack Obama insulted our intelligence when he claimed against all evidence during this week's debate that his only tie to ACORN is his past representation of the group in a lawsuit. But when Barnicle writes that Sarah Palin's candidacy is an insult not to "our" intelligence, but to intelligence itself, it's hard to read that other than as suggesting Palin is something other than smart. Throw in his reference to "preposterous pronouncements" and there's little doubt that the person Barnicle intended to insult is Palin herself.

Barnicle? He's been fired for plagiarizing TWICE!! What pathetic jokes the liberals are.

Barnicle's daughter and her husband live in my town. They are Birkenstock wearing moonbats. He was fired from his job as Beach Manager after it was discovered by the state that he was allowing the beach to erode so he could protect the 'plovers'.

Barnicle’s son-in-law sounds like a typical liberal: save the plovers, sacrifice the unborn.

What I compared were the comments. The ones that stick in my mind in particular in those days were from Norman Mailer but there were many others. The number of those making such comments also including rock musicians and others of the ilk that plague us with political comments reflecting their ignorance and arrogance.

The point, which you seem to have avoided, is that the attitudes were the same.

But if you want to make comparisons why not be specific? For example, what was different about Governor Reagan’s “foreign policy experience” then from that of Governor Palin today?

You don’t seem to be employing reason, but rather rodomontade.

Did Barnicle write this, or did he plagiarize this too?

Big Media is insulting the majority of American's intelligence!

Obama has less experience than Palin. Has any journalist asked if we are concerned about Obmama's lack of experience? Heck no. A vote for McCain is a vote against liberal media.

Rereading your comment, you are correct. I was skipping by too quickly.

Still, since you went ahead and decided to compare Palin to Reagan, I am astonished - since you are clearly an intelligent individual.

Reagan led a state of 20 million people with a varied economy that was the world’s 6th largest a diverse population and huge budgetary issues. Palin ran a town of 5000 and then a state of 600,000. The state pumps its money from the ground and from the federal government and sends it citizens a check.

Reagan was involved in politics and had thought deeply about them for decades. Palin thought the Russians were flying Sorties over Alaska.

For me, Palin is to be more appropriate compared to W. Bush then to Reagan. The tendency of the GOP to move from a party with an intellectual base to one of trying to only appeal to fans of professional wrestling is incredibly distressing. There are not bumper sticker answers to every problem.

McCain’s choice of this woman and Drill Baby Drill caused me to look at a 3rd party as America’s only hope.

Who is Barnicle? I do not recognize Huffington Post because Ariana has a good handle on "an insult to human intelligence."She is living proof of it.

Barnicle: A type of arthropod belonging to infraclass Cirripedia in the subphylum Crustacea, and is hence distantly related to crabs and lobsters. Barnicles are exclusively marine, and tend to live in shallow and tidal waters, typically in erosive settings. They are sessile suspension feeders, and have two nektonic larval stages.

Intelligence, according the Mike Barnicles of the Obama Press, is living in a state like Massachusetts, where the state government rapes you for thousands of dollars a year in phony taxes.

The stupid people live in states like Alaska, which husbands its resources and gives its citizens money BACK, in the form of an annual royalty check.

This year, Alaska under Sarah Palin's insulting governance gave the stupid peasants $3200 back to spend on stupid peasant stuff.

You sure are smart, Mike Barnicle. ;-)

BTW, Barnicle - McCain would be at 12% if he hadn't chosen Palin as a running mate.

Idiot.

I used to watch Morning Joe and Mika, but no more. When I check out what they're saying, it's usually in favor of Obama.

I spoke to a democrat the other day, and she doesn't like Palin either. I told this woman that I love Palin and that she'd make a great president.
