Extremely high concentrations of pesticide have been detected in a pack of frozen green beans imported from China by Nichirei Foods Inc., the Health, Labor and Welfare Ministry and the Tokyo metropolitan government announced Wednesday.
The beans were found to be contaminated with high levels of the organic phosphate pesticide dichlorvos.
A 56-year-old housewife in Hachioji, western Tokyo, was hospitalized Sunday after she started eating the beans before spitting them out.
The metropolitan government said the beans were ingen green beans and the package contained 250 grams of them.
The ministry is warning customers not to eat this brand of beans imported from China, and is suspending the importation of all products from the factory in China that supplied the beans.
The Metropolitan Police Department is investigating the incident as a suspected poisoning case, but it has found no evidence so far that the package had been tampered with.

Don’t eat anything from China.
I noticed that canned mushrooms are from China, even the brand names, so I don’t buy them any more.
soon, the healthiest chinese food will be deep fried rats and stewed monkey testicles. Everything else will kill you.

Those are still good coming out of Portugal at a reasonable price. I can't see getting them from anywhere else for awhile yet.
Prayers that the lady makes a full recovery. Food poisoning isn’t pleasant.

i won’t let my kids use any makeup from china, eat food from other countries, or drink from plastics or stoneware made in china.
i thought that i read somewhere that they only “test” 5% of what comes in.
we could be getting their radioactive waste, who knows?
they’ll probably try putting melamine in those too!

What is it with China? Can’t they afford cheap, non toxic fillers like say cellulose, for example?
We could ship them our old blue jeans and they could shred the cotton... jeez...
I added my keyword for Chinese junk.
Anything made in Japan used to be called junk.
Japan cleaned up their act and proved their worth.
So now we get “chunk”.
Not at all surprising, the Chinese have no respect for others.
