With Election Day right around the corner, the Republicans are bringing back an issue that brought them national media attention: Former Gov. Eliot Spitzer's long-dead plan to let illegal immigrants get driver's licenses.
Assemblyman Greg Ball, an outspoken Hudson Valley Republican (particularly when it comes to all things immigration-related) who won a bitter GOP primary battle last month, and Rensselaer County Clerk Frank Merola, who sued over Spitzer's license plan, are holding a public hearing in Manhattan Thursday on "massive voter fraud potential" caused by the issuance of 23,000 licenses to non-citizens during the former governor's tenure.
From the press release announcing the hearing, which will be held at the Metropolitan Club:
"Section 5 of the Federal Motor Voter Act requires New York to provide individuals with the opportunity to register to vote at the same time that they apply for a driver's license or seek to renew a driver's license.
By law, none of these 23,000 foreign visitors are eligible to vote, yet now many are registered because they hold Spitzer licenses. A public hearing will be conducted on October 16th in Manhattan to assess what can be done at the local, state, and Federal level to secure these 23,000 licenses and scrub the voter rolls of ineligible voters."
It's unclear whether this is a smart election strategy, since the last time the Republicans tried to link the licenses with local races back in 2007 it didn't work too well, although it caused plenty of concern among Democrats.
One thing the issue did do was force Spitzer, whose poll numbers were in the toilet at the time, to keep a very low profile during the campaign.
Given all that has transpired since then, you might expect the Republicans to be resurrecting Spitzer at every turn. But other than a few early mentions, no one really has. Until now, that is.
Curious.

ACORN CONNECTON Freeper Calpernia posted that brothels connected to Spitzer that were shut down (Emperor's Club and Lap Dance) were laundering monies through nonprofits (ACORN affiliates--the Chicago-based group charged with mass voter registration fraud all over the country).
BACKSTORY The beginning of Spitzers end can be traced to three banking transfers that left his personal account at North Fork Bank, New York spring and summer 2007. The payments totaling $15,000 attracted the attention of bank employees who monitor accounts for signs of suspicious activity. (NOTE: After 911, money-laundering laws were significantly tightened, requiring banks to file so-called suspicious activity reports whenever there is evidence that clients might be trying to sidestep routine regulations).
Spitzers money transfers to a company called QAT International Inc later revealed to be a front for the Emperors Club brothel were reportedly considered by the bank to be an attempt to avoid another law that requires all transactions over $10,000 to be reported to the US Treasury. Breaking down payments with intent to avoid US Treasury reporting requirements is an offense known as structuring.
Then-Gov Spitzers administration has also been connected to sophisticated computer "Destroyer Programs" that erase computer hard drives.
Mmmmmmmm...... hey Spitzfong — was she worth it?
DMV = Department of Mexican Voters....
Both McCain and Obama said they support this during the debate last night.
New York is one of the states that pre pledged their electorals.
Background:
New Jersey, New York, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, Connecticut, well, the total that I have so far is 187 electorals, have enacted into law to pre pledge their electorals to the popular vote for POTUS. Only 83 more electorals are needed for Obama to win. And there were a number of states that had their bill for pre pledging their electorals passed by their state houses.
IOW, the electorals normally vote for whom they regions in their states select for President. Now, as per our governors signing into law, our electors will all vote for whom receives the most popular vote.
Hence, all the voter fraud. Illegals and low income housing will now decide who our next President is. Obviously, that will be Obama. Our voices no longer matter.
Here is the law in my state:
