In an election for President of the United States in New Mexico today, 10/14/08, Democrat Barack Obama defeats Republican John McCain 52% to 45%, according to this latest SurveyUSA poll conducted exclusively for KOB-TV in Albuquerque. Compared to identical SurveyUSA polls released two and four weeks ago, little has changed; Obama has consistently taken 52% of the vote; McCain has taken 44%, 44%, and now 45%.
While overall numbers remain steady, there is some offsetting movement along age lines, with some movement toward McCain among the youngest voters, and offsetting movement toward Obama among older voters.
Obama continues to need the support of Hispanic Americans and Native Americans to win the state. McCain leads by 13 points among New Mexico whites; Obama leads by 45 points among Hispanics and by 29 points among Natives. If Hispanic turnout is overstated in this model, so is Obama's lead. If Hispanic turnout is understated in this model, so is Obama's lead.

New Mexico is still competitive, thankfully. It was a key state in the past two elections.
I’m not at all surprised. When my Aunt was a state rep she was one of a small handful of Republicans. It’s a pretty liberal state, except for a few areas. It’s no wonder, it’s been invaded by Californians. Too bad because it is the most beautiful state in the nation.
“Democrat Barack Obama defeats Republican John McCain 52% to 45%”
Wow, according to this survey, those of who live in New Mexico need not vote because Obama has already defeated McCain. Geez ... gotta love those polls.
When is Sarah Palin coming to New Mexico???
At least they're honest about it.
Hispanic turnout in New Mexico tends to be higher than the national average. The Pope needs to endorse McCain.

New Mexico is politically and geographically divided. Northern is mainly liberals (Santa Fe) and the south is very conservative. Unfortunately, as you said, it’s being overrun by liberals moving to the Santa Fe area. Also, the state government is run by Democrats. They’re VERY corrupt up there.
On a side note, my parents have both been live-long Southern Democrats and just moved outside of Albuquerque in March. My father passed away 4 weeks ago and my mother, bless her heart, within a few days went to turn in his voter registration card. There are a FEW honest Democrats. Of course I had to kid her that even though he’d passed away, since he was a registered Democrat, they’d still let him vote in New Mexico. (actually the OTHER joke was that he managed to find a way to not have to vote for Obama and still not vote for McCain instead).
This is much closer then WI or MI were, and it would be a great great pickup for McPalin.
As I recall GWB lost in NM in 2000 and eeked out a win in 2004 in NM?
If this state flips, it would help a heck of alot.
They fact that they haven’t sent Sarah means either they aren’t worried about it, or they don’t think they can win it.
EVERY TIME anyone posts a poll, they should compare the weights to the 2004 turnout.
Every time.
Until recently, it had been close enough that McCain was here. Actually, he was in Albuquerque the Monday before the last debate. I couldn’t get a way from work to go see him. Too bad because he was ON FIRE that day.
Artsy, fartsy, tree hugging, liberals from the west coast. Hey that reminds me...do you know what the Nevada state tree is?.....the telephone pole.
Having lived in Midland (Odessa’s neighbor) and Roswell (my Dad still lives there and my Mom’s family lived in that area since the turn of the last century) I realize that both are not everyone’s cup of tea. However, Roswell is not all of NM and if it’s all you’ve seen you’ve missed most of the best stuff.
However, I’m happy if no one else from other parts of the country finds it, since I plan to retire there and there are too many people from other states there as it is. :)
In the 2006 elections there was at least 2 heavily Republican precincts that they sent 10% of the number of ballots that were required. For instance, in one Rio Rancho precinct, they sent 290 ballots for 2900 registered voters. Voters were simply told they were out of ballots and would have to come back later. At least one more precinct reported the same. That was when it was about a week before we found out if Heather Wilson won against Patricia Madrid. And it was down to almost single digits between them. That had potentially devistating effects.
Yes, my Aunt used to get sooo angry when the legislature was in session!
And, I’m sorry about the loss of your Dad. Thankfully I still have mine (altho he’s in his 80s). I hope you’re Mom does ok.

Sarah is the big gun.
Her presence will confirm it is competetive.
Thank you. He’d just turned 80 a little over a week before he passed away. Call your father and tell him you love him.
I’m happy my dad doesn’t have to see what’s going on now, with the economy. It would drive him crazy. And there was no way he was going to vote for Obama.
