BAMA CAMPAIGN ISSUES TALKING POINTS TO MEDIA AHEAD OF DEBATE Wed Oct 15 2008 11:15:03 ET
The Obama campaign issued a set of debate 'talking points' to media on Wednesday morning, the DRUDGE REPORT can reveal.
Press Secretary Sean Smith issued the directive in an email from Pennsylvania, 12 hours before the debate.
The directive oddly mirrors much of the main press analysis and theme of the current campaign:
* This is John McCain's last chance to turn this race around and somehow convince the American people that his erratic response to this economic crisis doesn't disqualify him from being President.
* Just this weekend the weekend, John McCain vowed to "whip Obama's you-know-what" at the debate, and he's indicated that he'll be bringing up Bill Ayers to try to distract voters.
* So we know that Senator McCain will come ready to attack Barack Obama and bring his dishonorable campaign tactics to the debate stage.
Obama continues to lead on the economic crisis with a rescue plan for Main Street.
* Over the course of the campaign, Barack Obama has laid out a set of policies that will grow our middle class and strengthen our economy.
* But he knows we face an immediate economic emergency that requires urgent action - on top of the plans he's already laid out - to help workers and families and communities struggling right now.
* That's why Barack Obama is introducing a comprehensive four-part Rescue Plan for the Middle Class - to immediately to stabilize our financial system, provide relief to families and communities, and help struggling homeowners.
* This is a plan that can and should be implemented immediately.
* Obama has shown steady leadership during this crisis and offered concrete solutions to move the country forward - and his Rescue Plan for the Middle Class builds on the plans to strengthen the economy and rebuild the middle class that he's laid out over the course of this campaign.
* Already in this campaign, he's unveiled plans to give 95 percent of workers and their families a tax cut, eliminate income taxes for seniors making under $50,000, bring down the cost of health care for families and businesses; and create millions of new jobs by investing in the renewable energy sources.
* John McCain has been erratic and unsteady since this crisis began - staggering from position to position and trying to change the subject away from the economy by launching false character attacks.
Developing...
Didn't Major Garrett turn out to be one 'major' disappointment this election cycle?...to think he USED to be one of my favorites.
Ayers is an obvious thorn in Obama’s crown...I mean side. AND if I am not mistaken, they just blinked.
STAND UP AND FIGHT!
One of two choices folks: talk of impending doom, or get off your asses and fight. What will it be?
Sam Donaldson read it almost word-for-word, without giving credit to Obama’s campaign, during this morning’s interview on KMBZ. He embellished it, though, by continuing to exclaim that McCain had to stop his attacks ‘cause they weren’t working and served no purpose. Hope that means the attacks are working....
I hope I win the lottery.
I hope I get a new pony for Christmas.
I hope Jenny likes me.
I hope I find a job.
I hope the Orioles make The Playoffs.
I hope John McCain takes on Obama regarding his judgment.
I hope the sun comes out tomorrow.
Nothing personal, but McCain's “team”? This “coach” reminds me of another coach, Ted Marchibroda (sp) with the Baltimore Colts. Run, run, pass, kick.
Real nice try, but NO CIGAR! Maceman, I am beyond pissed at McCain.
Did you read about Obama’s rescue plan for the middle class in the WSJ the other day? I think that they called it the 95% solution. Anyway it is all about tax credits, not tax deductions and redistribution of wealth. The article said that the Democrats had proposed the same thing in a McGovern campaign and the media dubbed the give aways, democraps. It shouldn’t surprise anyone that with William Ayres behind his campaign, Obama reverts to proposals of McGovern.
The only change that Obama can bring us is reactionary proposals from another failed era.
But in the end it won't matter one bit.
Now, McCain may consider providing a little red meat for his conservative base. But that carries a risk of turning off the undecideds (the ones that actually bother to vote, that is).
Sure. Canada is not that far away.
“Erratic” is coded hate speech for anyone over the age of 60. It means “senile”. It would be as if the McCain campaign issued a directive to the press (as if they could) and used the word “uppity” to describe Obama.
McCain should just come right out of the box and say:
Obama is a marxist, terrorist sympathizer, black separatist, who if elected will take your money, your guns and your personal freedoms, He will institute government policies to undermine the US Constitution, destroy American sovereignty, and control you. You will become a slave to the state. He will appoint judges that will fulfill his embrace of baby killing and will open the doors to Sharia law. And we still don’t know for sure if he’s even an American Citizen.
Once the MSM picks their collective jaws off the floor - this will be the topic of every news program from now until the election. What Economy?
One of the things I’d like to see McCain do at this last debate is to have on hand the bill he tried to have passed by Congress. The bill would have PREVENTED this current economical crisis. He needs to wave in front of the camaera’s and refer to it on his website.
The obvious response from obama would be that most of his own party didn’t sign it.
McCain response could be, they knew it was going to be blocked by the democrat party, and it was, further more I”M the one running for president and I’m going to do something about it.
I would like to see McCain go after obama’s proposed tax increase policy and refer the clinton policy after he was elected when he initiated the biggest tax increase in our country.
Message? You can’t trust him, he will betray the country.
MODERATOR: First question goes to Senator Obama. Senator Obama, can you tell us just how good we'll all have it with you in the White House?
[break]
MODERATOR: Next question is for Mr McCain. John, why are Republicans so evil?
I truly believe that.
I wish I had the talking points. Then I wouldn’t have to waste time listening to David Gergen or Allan Colmes.
Great idea, C-Span it is.
I remember 4 years ago when we piled on Carl Cameron, or whatever his last name is. Remember that he was given the crap job of covering Kerry. I don't blame Garrett for having the assignment of covering the propaganda campaign. He is more balanced than the other networks (whose names shall never pass my lips again).
So you're pissed that he's winning this election? Or you're okay with that, but just pissed that he's not winning it in the way you want him to?
That will work well. Now the journalists will have to try to come up with an original thought.
I had to quit watching Fox News at night for the very reasons you just mentioned. In a just world, Obama will lose come November 4th and we can begin to put this whole nightmare behind us.
