CBS News' Michelle Levi reports that a PAC called Our Country Deserve Better is now running an ad that is essentially a compilation of most of the character and association attacks made against Barack Obama throughout the year.
The ad, "Obama's Wrong Values," began running Sunday night in Reno, Nevada and has since expanded across the state. The group plans to air the spot in Colorado starting tomorrow and run it in Michigan where McCain has pulled his advertising by the end of the week.
According to a PAC spokesman, the group has already spent just under $100,000 in Nevada and Colorado to run the spot. The group said its budget in Michigan is "$500,000 or higher." It said it has plans to expand to Ohio and Pennsylvania, adding that its funding comes largely from a large number of small donors.
The anti-Obama group says it is kicking off a two week "Stop Obama Tour," which will include rallies, starting tomorrow.
According to its web site, the group has one objective: "to defeat Barack Obama in the 2008 presidential election."
They promise they "wont be subtle or vague - Americas future is at stake, and its time someone stood up to Barack Obama and told the American people why this man cannot, and must not, serve as our next Commander-in-Chief."
The 30 second spot opens with a narrator saying "Barack Obama seems to have different values from most Americans." As he says this, the Democratic nominee is spotlighted without his hand on his heart during the Pledge of Allegiance.
"His supporters put up Cuban flags with the murderous leftist Che Guevara in Obama's campaign offices," the narrator continues. "Obama's campaign received $33,000 in illegal donations from Palestinians living in the Middle East. A top official of the terrorist group Hamas endorsed Obama's campaign. And who can forget these hateful sermons from Obama's pastor of over 20 years."
At this point, Rev. Jeremiah Wright is shown saying "God Damn America."
Watch:
Only Nevadans would have seen it as of this week. That will soon change as it starts running in Colorado and then Michigan.
It's an interesting situation because we at the Our Country Deserves Better Committee didn't do a media push on this. What I think happened based on what we tracked is that there was a post last night on DailyKos about a Kossack seeing the ad run in Nevada and he/she was apoplectic.
Somehow word got to Mark Halperin, and he wrote about it, and then the word spread to the others in the drive-by media.
I got (I kid you not) 8 phone calls or emails within 5 mintues from: ABC News, CBS Evening News, Fox News Channel, Washington Post, Los Angeles Times. And it was reported on at New York Newsday and The Politico within that same window.
The media REALLY does engage in pack journalism.
Yet had we put out 5 press releases announcing the start of this ad on the airwaves I betcha we wouldn't have gotten even one media outlet to report on it. That's my guess anyways.
No, McCain is not purposely throwing the election. It is Savage’s way of challenging McCain to step up to the plate and act like he really wants the Presidency.
McCain is quoted as saying he will kick some butt in the upcoming debate. There is tons of factual and visual material available to work with. He doesn’t have to make anything up.
The Marxist Onada needs to be squashed so there is no way The Messiah is ever resurrected again.
Awesome. And thank you for doing the work that the mainstream media refuses to do. I will be making a donation to your group.
We really need to support this effort. We got the email last night from Our Country Deserves Better and I'm planning on forwarding the info about this PAC and ads to many conservative friends. This group needs our support. Since they've already got the attention of the drive-by media, we need to keep the pressure on.
If enough of these ads are put on prime time TV they (MSM) will have to start talking about it. That's the only way they will ever be forced into touching these subjects, when enough people see the ads and start calling in and asking why they've never reported on it.
