Steve Corbett, a radio talk show host in Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, received a copy of an internal email sent by Grant Olan who heads the Wilkes-Barre headquarters of the Obama campaign. The email went to 627 Obama campaign volunteers in the Wilkes-Barre Scranton region, saying that Obama Headquarters reported an internal poll which shows that Obama is only 2 points up in Pennsylvania.
Sean Smith, who is heading Obama's Pennsylvania campaign, was interviewed by Steve Corbett via phone at 5:35 today to discuss this. He said that Grant "went rogue", and aknowledged that Grant was "reprimanded" for this. Sean would not deny that the internal poll showed this, and his words were carefully chosen.
In 2004: D41, R39, I20. Kerry beat Bush by 2 points in PA. PA was two points more Democratic than the national average, which was R37, D37, and I26.
For extra credit, in 2000 Gore defeated Bush by 4 points in PA. The 2000 Party ID numbers for PA are unavailable, but nationally the Dems had a 4 point turnout advantage in 2000.
I trust you can judge for yourself whether that 12 point difference in the recent PA polls is realistic or unrealistic.
Biggest mistake that the Dems made was not to throw Hillary! a bone. She knows where all of the bodies are buried.
Turnout in 2004 in Pennsylvania was 37% Republican and 37% Democrat.
According to CNN it is was 37R and 37D in Pa.
No, you are looking at the national numbers. In PA, it was D41, R 39, I 20.

Yup. Correction noted.

Must be all those bitter gun-clingers and racists, if you believe Jack Murtha.
I’m a clinger....
Obama was in Philly for two reasons:
1. To ensure coverage and impact in the Philly suburbs
2. To make sure all turnout plans in Philly reach at least 105%.
And no, that is not a typo.
Gee, thanks—now I can’t get that damn Dr. Pepper jingle out of my head...”I’m a clinger, you’re a clinger, wouldn’t you like to be a clinger too?”
I cling with thee.
“McCain is only screaming , we are down by 6 to help the
get out the vote effort. Voters stay home if they think their canidate is safe. They get out if they think their canidate can be helped.”
You are absolutely right. There are some sharp folks on this thread.
I’m gonna check this out. Thanks!
Wasn’t it Steve Corbett who got the PUMAs started? My apologies if this has been posted before.
I hadn’t heard that specifically, but it very well could be. I’ve heard him mention PUMA before, and he’s definitely pro-Hillary and anti-Obama, so I wouldn’t be surprised.
If McCain wins PA, OH, and Florida, he can lose Iowa, New Mexico, Colorado, and Virginia and still win with 273 electoral votes.
