I am not sure where Chuck Baur (community comment, Oct. 6) gets his information on Barack Obama being the "candidate of outdoorsmen" and how Obama supports our Second Amendment rights. He is no friend of the Second Amendment. The man talks a good show, but his past anti-gun actions betray him.
Let's look at the facts of Obama and his stance on guns:
FACT: Before running for president, Obama expressed support for banning many types of firearms.
On a 1996 questionnaire, Obama answered "yes" to a question about his support for legislation to "ban the manufacture, sale and possession of handguns."
Scholar John Lott recalls Obama saying, "I don't believe that people should be able to own guns."
In 2003, Obama voted in support of legislation (ISB1195) that "Would have banned most of the privately held hunting shotguns, target rifles and black powder rifles" in Illinois.
FACT: Obama believed the D.C. gun ban was constitutional.
It was reported that Obama's campaign said he "... believes that we can recognize and respect the rights of law-abiding gun owners and the right of local communities to enact common sense laws to combat violence and save lives."
Is the Second Amendment a right only when the local government says it is?

After the decision by the Supreme Court, Obama did a major spin and flip to try and convince the unknowing that the decision confirmed his beliefs.
FACT: Before running for president, Obama came out in support of many anti-gun policies.
Obama was on the board of the anti-gun Joyce Foundation, which spent millions on gun-control causes. The Joyce Foundation has provided more than $15 million in funding to radical gun control organizations such as the Violence Policy Center and the Illinois Council Against Handgun Violence. The Joyce Foundation is linked tightly to the Soros Open Society Institute — an extremist group that advocates a worldwide ban on civilian firearm ownership.
In 2004, Obama voted four times against legislation (SB2165) "drafted to protect homeowners from prosecution in cases where they used a firearm to halt a home invasion."
In 2004, Obama called for federal legislation to pre-empt state concealed carry laws. Obama said he opposed allowing ordinary citizens to carry concealed weapons and that a federal law banning concealed carried weapons except for law enforcement is needed."
Obama recently spoke out against concealed carry. He was quoted as saying he was not in favor of concealed weapons because it creates an atmosphere in which more innocent people could get shot during altercations.
In 2001, Obama voted against and helped defeat a bill to allow individuals to carry concealed weapons when they have a valid order of protection against another person.
He was quoted as saying, "Concealed-carry laws would only increase the problem of handgun violence and ultimately make the streets less safe everywhere. ... It was a bad idea, and I'm glad it failed. ..."
Wrong. Data proves that concealed carry prevents crimes, not causes it.
In the U.S. Senate, Obama voted twice to hold manufacturers, distributors, dealers and importers of firearms and ammunition liable for the acts of criminals.
FACT: Obama in 2004, 2002 and 1998 received "F" ratings from the National Rifle Association.
The conclusion is that Obama is not the "candidate of the outdoorsmen."
How any gun owner or hunter could vote for Obama based on his past anti-gun record is beyond me.

Apparently it is news to the “Rednecks for 0bama” and all those “life long Republicans” who are turning Demo, or so they claim, because theyre tired of Bush and the far right agenda, blah blah blah. Once 0bama and “don’t touch my berretta” Biden start pushing gun control laws and go after law abiding citizens, then maybe the faux rednecks and GOPers for 0bama will learn their lesson the hard way.
I've had my ammo supply built up since before Clinton too, but just imagine if a box that cost 17 bucks, increases to 80 bucks;;; and you know they will tax powder too.
