Even New Jerseyans can't stand living in New Jersey, according to a new poll that said nearly half of adults residing in the Garden State want to pull up stakes.
The Monmouth University/Gannett New Jersey Poll, released Wednesday, found 49 percent of those polled would rather live somewhere else.

Poll participants cited high property taxes (28 percent), the cost of living (19 percent), state taxes (5 percent) and housing costs (6 percent) as the main reasons they want out. The poll also found that 51 percent of those who expressed a desire to leave planned to do so, with adults under the age of 50 making between $50,000 and $100,000 the most likely to flee.
"If you have the ability to leave and you don't see any possibility for change with the way the state is run and that's the No. 1 issue here you have to vote with your feet," said Patrick Murray, director of the Monmouth University Polling Institute.

"It's no wonder that New Jersey is a national joke," he said. "We've done it to ourselves with these just positively irresponsible policies."

That migration depleted the state's tax coffers of an estimated $10 billion in personal income and $680 million in sales tax, according to the Rutgers report.
"This really illustrates among a lot of other things that the public has thrown up their hands," Murray said. "They don't feel that there's anything they can do that would change the situation."

"One can only hope that the pendulum will stop swinging this way and start moving back the other way 'cause if it doesn't, you're going to see 9 million people suffer," he said.
"Or you're going to see the last person over the Delaware turn out the lights."

the taxes are outrageous and most people are fed up with that and the corruption
We are being invaded by the Mexican military these days (escorting drug smugglers onto US territory).
Do you really want to move into a battleground state?
Red country Illinois is hell stay away for your own good.
If half leave then who is gonna pay the bills?
Baby, they were born to run (away!)
At least in Texas the drug smugglers are just passin’ thru...
The idea that govt is a giver of free stuff will expand as northeasterners move south and west. My part of America developed the idea of govt as employer of last resort, dispenser of welfare, provider of health care. That's what we've grown up with and as we move these ideas will be coming to a neighborhood near you.
The Democrats have solved the problem. They raised taxes again to make up for the lost revenues. Prosperity will follow shortly.
New Jersey leeches are taking over the Poconos in NE PA, bringing the politics with them.
Will the last one to leave NJ please turn out the lights?
Me, for the next few years, unfortunately.
On the day I am retirement eligible, I am showing up for work with the car packed up. And I think I'll take the afternoon off to get an early start!
Does that mean those liberals will want to come south? Let’s get ready to man the baricades and put up check points. Look what happened to Colorado when all those Californians moved there. Same thing is happening in Nevada. It’s because of migrating Californians that Seattle is only second to San Francisco as the most liberal city. Can we start a campaign that says “what is in New Jersey, stays in New Jersey”.
Well, I’ll post it again.
“Stay home, locusts. You ruined your state voting for liberals, now wallow in the filth you created. Don’t ruin our states.”
New Jersey folks move here to Virginia and North Carolina and turn the “Red” states “Blue”. They bring their ‘liberal culture’ with them when they move. Virginia will now have two liberal Democrat Senators after November. It was not the “Red” state Virginians that made this change, but all the “Blue” northern transplants.
Cannot I get some kind of an ID card showing that I am not a typical NJ voter? Maybe if I save all of my old Fred Thompson, McCain/Palin and Ronald Reagan lawn signs (complete with snarky graffiti from the neighbors), I can get some kind of dispensation...
Stay the hell out of NC!
Yes, that is all true.
Just like “Deliverance,” only drier, with religion and more guns.
I’m 67 and a life long Californian. I would LOVE to find a conservative state and get out of here.... but I am afraid it will only be a matter of time and they all will be liberal /socialist rule. Sad state of affairs in our land.
Funny, when I visit Texas, it seems perfectly pleasant. I must be seeing it at just the right time of year...
NJ does deserve 100% of the bad press it receives.
I know. I grew up there. And when I was 17, I left the state, never to return. Didn’t apply to any college in NJ, didn’t want to, despite my parent’s wanting me to stay there, couldn’t believe anyone would want to stay in NJ for 10 seconds longer than necessary to relieve themselves there.
Even back then, before I knew anything about politics, economics, social policy, etc, I could see that New Jersey was going to become the socialist armpit of the United States and I wanted out. I didn’t know exactly where I wanted to go to, but I knew exactly where I was going to be from.
As far as I’m concerned, we should close down the military ordnance ranges in the west, restore some perfectly good rangeland, and use NJ for ordnance testing instead. It would improve both the western states and NJ at the same time.
Just like Detroit. You vote in rubbish and then wonder “why is it so bad?” Duh!
