Hi NorthernlightsII.

You met him last night? Isn’t he great?!?

I met him a few years ago, and he just shines in person.

My daughter is voting after work, but my son is too young this year.

How has your local candidate been doing in the polls?

The Atlantic, I think is pretty much lost. The key will be Ontario and Quebec - I mean rural Quebec. And the Conservatives can pretty much clean out the Canadian West. So they may get a slightly larger minority government. I'm guessing 140. If they get 160, (155 needed for a majority, it will be a great night for them.)

Clockwise from bottom left: Conservative leader and Prime Minister Stephen Harper, Liberal leader Stephane Dion, New Democratic Party leader Jack Layton and Green leader Elizabeth May.

What fanfan says...from your lips...all our prayers are out there. Maybe the 905 will finally come through and end the liberal juggernaut.

Downtown Toronto is hopeless. If the Conservatives can pick up the suburban ridings, they stand a chance at that elusive majority. I'm skeptical. For American readers, a Canadian "riding" is the equivalent of an American congressional district.

Sounds like France—4 party versions of socialism/liberalism and one 1 of capitalism/conservatism.

Too funny.

John Weston is running here, I think he has a very good shot since he is running against Blair Wilson the banned liberal turned green. This is a pretty conservative riding and last time only 800 votes separated Weston who was totally unknown then from Wilson. So I am very hopeful. I am volunteering as scrutineer tonight and have to be there for the count so I really want to see a win....;)

It’s better than before.

The Liberals kept winning because the right was split.

The Greens are not even in contention. Jack Layton's New Democrats are socialist, Stephane Dion leads the party that has governed Canada for most of its modern history - the Liberals, Gilles Duceppe leads the Quebec only sovereigniste Bloc Quebecois and of course Stephen Harper heads the Conservatives now currently running Canada's federal government.

Wow. Nice Bio!

GET TO KNOW JOHN

I was there when we counted the votes for one of the first two Reform seats in Ontario, and it was so exhilarating! (Scott Reid)

Have a wonderful time tonight.

I can’t vote any more because I’m no longer a resident. I could have fudged the absentee voting registration form, but that would lower my standards to ACORN levels....

See, now? That's the problem with our side. We don't cheat. How the heck are we supposed to win?

;-D

In Canada, all voting is done with an old fashioned paper ballot. You mark an X next to the riding candidate you intend to vote for with a pencil and seal and it give it to the election official to drop in the ballot box. No hanging chads or electronic voting machines to rig. But that means exit polls don't work either. So one has to follow the election riding by riding. We'll get the first returns when Atlantic Canada reports in about 4:30 EDT.
