Thanks, fanfan. My fingers are crossed until they’re blue — conservative, tory type blue. I am praying for Harper (and that Khan can hold on to his cross-the-floor seat).
Multiple prayers going up. Is a majority too much to ask this time???

Welcome and do get your citizenship. My (American) husband was tickled at the though he gets to vote twice in three weeks. He was surprised our ballots don’t have the prime minister’s name on them, though. He kept asking questions from behind the cardboard screen ;)

Forgive my ignorance, are the Conservatives the only party on the right?Yes.
I know there use to be a libertarian/conservative party based largely in the West, am I correct that they folded into the Conservatives?
Yes. They were the Reform Party, and then became the Canadian Alliance, and then merged with the Progressive Conservatives to make the Conservative Party of Canada we have now.

LOL.
I took an informal exit poll of my husband and my self.
Extrapolating those results, it looks like a Harper landslide.

It is an interesting fall, with two elections. New Zealand's is the 8th.
Of course that's this spring there...

Thanks for the info. Got off my duff and did a little research—
but it is always best to hear it from real people to get proper context (I suspect Wiki pedia sometimes lies to me ;^).

“It is an interesting fall, with two elections.”
It certainly is. Did you have any problem with receiving your absentee ballot from the US? Ours went through some strange permutations despite having received it for the last two election cycles without a problem. Guess some in SD are still bitter Daschle was given the boot.
That’s another difference with our political parties. Free to register in the US, but to belong in Canada you pay for your membership. Guess it stands to reason as we pay for everything else...
