The Conservatives need to do well with the federalist vote in Quebec to have a shot at a majority.

For what it is worth my parents live in Quebec City and were true Trudeau backers. They are voting Harper. That is gold, NLII!
It's people with common sense, like your parents, that will push us over the top this time.

140. They could get no worse than 130. If its a very good night, 160 looks doable. *Giggle* You've got every option covered there, except a Dion landslide.

Quebec City is overwhelmingly Francophone. Montreal, while French speaking, still has a significant Anglophone presence. That tends to vote Liberal and the island is a Liberal stronghold.

That sounds close, but I expect the tories to pick up only another ten seats. I really, really pray for fanfan’s 156, but I don’t see it. My great fear is some idiotic and short-lived coalition between the lefty libs and the beyond-left NPD. I wouldn’t put it past Jack@— and M. le Milquetoast to try it. Maybe I’m just in turkey malaise.

If Dion manages that, then John Turner will still look like history's Liberal loser! That was the Progressive Conservative landslide in 1984.

Considering the Liberals and New Democrats have poached each other's turf for votes, its possible they could put together a coalition government. But the Bloc keeps coming in with demands no Canadian federalist party could ever accept.

Dion is so far left, though, and Layton so eager for power I can’t help but think they’ll find ways to agree in the short term. Is it just me or do others feel well be having this same thread on October 19th next year?

Is there anyone here from the GTA, who could speak to any possible movement there towards the Conservatives? I thaught the Young Offenders Act amendments would resonate there with all the shootings etc.
To: timsbella
I don't know... we'll just see how it goes tonight. Unless there's been a big swing in voter sentiment overnight, the Conservatives should be re-elected. Dion's carbon tax proposal and talk of job killing regulations isn't exactly popular in Canada.

The GTA is hopeless, its a basketcase of socialism. Nothing seems to make a difference there. For the Conservatives to gain a majority in Ontario, they'll have to do it outside the GTA.

Do like me.
Go back on your pre-turkey diet, and suck it up!
We are going to do just fine tonight.

I’m in Mississauga, and in the riding where Wajid Khan crossed the floor from Lib to Tory and is running for re-election. He has an excellent chance and ran a good campaign. The suburbanites work hard and want to hold on to what they have. As for the 416 (core Toronto) - they voted for Mayor Miller who thinks that all handguns come from the evil USA, and then wonders why we’re losing their tourist $$. Toronto has the university kids, the effite socialites, and marxist intellectuals. It also has the recipients of light sentences and welfare programs. Don’t forget the arts community who hate Harper because he wants to end their freebees. The upshot is they drank the koolaid and see red downtown.

I so want to envision a day, not to far in the future, when Laureen Harper and Cindy McCain are buying ties for the leaders of the free world.

Yep. Like I said 416 is red from election to election. They elect there not even Liberals but hardcore socialists. The Conservatives best shot is seat pick ups in the 905 region surrounding the 416 core.

But what about the “leafy” suburbs. Any shift there, economic stability has to be a concern there?
