West Palm Beach Congressman Tim Mahoney (D-FL), whose predecessor resigned in the wake of a sex scandal, agreed to a $121,000 payment to a former mistress who worked on his staff and was threatening to sue him, according to current and former members of his staff who have been briefed on the settlement, which involved Mahoney and his campaign committee.
Mahoney, who is married, also promised the woman, Patricia Allen, a $50,000 a year job for two years at the agency that handles his campaign advertising, the staffers said.
A Mahoney spokesperson would not answer questions about the alleged affair or the settlement, but said Allen resigned of her own accord and "has not received any special payment from campaign funds."
Senior Democratic leaders in the House of Representatives, including Rep. Rahm Emanuel (D-IL), the chair of the Democratic Caucus, have been working with Mahoney to keep the matter from hurting his re-election campaign, the Mahoney staffers said.

This should make Tom Rooney the prohibitive favorite in this Republican district, no?
Unless alleged mistress was Nancy Pelosi, I don’t see how this guy’s personal life is her fault.
anybody got a freaking poll on this race????
Anyone know what the election picture at both ends of the Capitol looks like? I have a feeling the mix in congress post election is going to become very important soon.
shouldn’t he be resigning?
a stupid pubbie would resign.
It’s all about sex, move on.. /s
The affair between Congressman Tim Mahoney and Patricia Allen began, according to current and former staffers, in 2006 when Mahoney was campaigning for Congress against Foley, promising "a world that is safer, more moral." (ABC News)
Except this is a Democrat, so never mind.

Another example of what Nazi Pelosi called the “Republican culture of corruption”
Oh wait! This is another Democrat like Bill Clinton, Barney Frank, William Jefferson of Louisiana, Ted “the Swimmer” Kennedy, Jack “the Traitor” Murtha and on and on and on......
What hypocrite ba$tards the Democ-rats are!
Senior Democratic leaders in the House of Representatives, including Rep. Rahm Emanuel (D-IL), the chair of the Democratic Caucus, have been working with Mahoney to keep the matter from hurting his re-election campaign, the Mahoney staffers said.
Despite Pelosi and Howard Dean's attempts to spin Mark Foley as a gay child molestor, he engaged in no criminal activity and no physical contact. The Democrats used it to paint a picture of a "culture of corruption" that "went all the way to the top of the party" because "they knew" (less than the DNC and press) and "did nothing".
Shoe is on the other foot.
Look at this adulterer's slogan:
The Democrats also championed another Democrat who had engaged in sex with his male aides in the early 1970s (when it was criminal) and championed him because he was a "gay activist" who "stood firm" against efforts to remove him for office for his crimes (it was criminal then). He happened to die while Foley was being investigated.
They are hypocrites, and Pelosi has NOT given us an "ethical" congress.
The prosecution couldn’t even prove its case against Mark Fowley - “insufficient evidence

Hmmm... wonder why this is not all over the headlines?
We is the selective moral outrage from the Democrats now?
we = Where
Gary condit got thrown out for stuff like this. Sounds like this guy should too.
The Democrats were NOT morally outraged at Mark Foley or the toe tapper. They used it as a wedge issue to supress voter turnout from the evangelical community who “clings” to religion (although in Foley’s case, they may have bought this Edwardsian “family man” schtick).
They wanted to TURN OFF those who would get “morally outraged”. The Democrats know that they cant’ win over all of the voters so in some cases they just want to turn them off to both parties.
It worked. The Rats won Congress through media collusion.
“The affair between Congressman Tim Mahoney and Patricia Allen began, according to current and former staffers, in 2006”
He paid what for that. I would plead insanity.
GUILTY!
