Filibusted: The Scary Spectre of 60 Democrat Senators
The American Spectator ^ | October 10, 2008 | W. James Antle III

Republicans have started sounding the alarm about the presidential race now that John McCain is trailing Barack Obama by anywhere from two to 11 percentage points. The battleground states aren't looking much better, with Obama leading in the polling averages for even Florida, Virginia, and Missouri.

Understandable that Republicans would be worried. But have they taken a look at the Senate races? For the last two years, your humble servant has been saying to anyone who will listen: The more Democratic next year's Senate, the more liberal the next two years' legislation will be no matter who wins the White House. If conservatives want to stop Obama's health care plan, McCain's trial balloon about having the federal government buy everybody's bad mortgages, or either man's costly cap-and-trade program, they will need a critical mass of filibuster-ready Republicans in the Senate.

Right now, that project isn't looking too good. The latest round of Senate polls shows Democratic gains in heretofore safe states. Republican incumbents who weren't on virtually anyone's radar screen months ago are in deep trouble.

With the percentage of Senators that are RINO's at best, there would need to be a lot more than 40 Republican Senators to have a "filibuster-ready" Senate.

And the first thing they'll do, before anything else, is get rid of all that pesky dissent by legislating the "Fairness Doctrine" back into existence. No more talk radio. Probably no more political activity on the internet. Unless both sides are treated "fairly".

I really fear for the future of our rights -- especially since, after the Kelo decision, we can't even count on the SC to uphold even the most basic, clearly defined principles of the Bill of Rights.

If the GOP doesnt start turning right and quit with this ‘my democrat friends’ BS then they can expect to be out of power for a longer time. I am so sick and tired of Kyl, McLame et.al. saying how they love Kennedy and Schumer. Its sickening to see how they hate conservative senators like Demint etal. yet will go out of their way to say how they love the manhattan elitists.

The filibuster is a rule of the Senate, and can be changed by a simple majority vote. You can bet that if Obama wins, and the Slavery Party (Democrats) maintains control of the Senate, they will vote out the filibuster in a heartbeat. There will be no say for the Republicans.

And it will be fully supported by the media because it will be “for the betterment of America”...

I will be blasted for this, but I believe that the Senators are in trouble partly due to funds that McCain is taking away from them because he took tax-payer money and now what ever money RNC is collecting has to go towards his win. There is really only two Republicans I would like to see go down this year and that is the Alaska Crook and Lindsey Graham. Unfortunately Lindsey is safe. Ugh!!! He probably can keep his seat until death. I would love to take John Kerry’s seat away, but as the article says he will win by a landslide. Ugh again!!!
