The New York Times took the unusual step of quickly editing and replacing a hysterical post by hockey blogger Lynn Zinser that covered Sarah Palin's appearance at the Philadelphia Flyers home opener where she was invited to drop a ceremonial puck. In her original post Zinser exaggerated the boos by the crowd, attacked Flyers owner Ed Snider for inviting Palin to the event and appears to have fabricated the discomfort felt by NHL players Scott Gomez and Mike Richards.
That account has since been changed. Somewhere along the line Zinser gutted the original article and replaced it with a new one that came a bit closer to reality. However the repost didn't occur before the original article shot across the internet where it was eventually picked up by Greg Mitchell at Editor & Publisher and flogged as a "political scoop".

That was probably Zinser holding up the Obuma signs at the game.

NYT: the NEW, improved Sears catalog.
Yes. Freepers who watched the ceremony seem to agree that when her name was announced, a few people booed, but that when she and her kids came out on the ice to drop the puck, she was strongly cheered.
Not bad for Philly.
I saw it on youtube. It was well behaved for a Philly crowd.
I read that “original fairytale”. She chose to blatantly ignore the truth for an obama tale.
Do these people think that if they write anti-mccain/palin stories they will be rewarded somehow by the obama campaign? 72 virgins? geez it’s so blatant.
The leftists in the MSM would kill their own mothers to see a marxist like Obama win.
bttt
With the NYT we are almost back in the days when the Soviet teams used to come over and play the NHL teams. Their stories mixed the political party line in with the sports report. I saw the game on the Internet. Sure everyone knew the Philly fans were going to boo, they are famous for that. It was good natured. Gomez gave her a peck and looked happy to see his governor. Many of these players come from Canada and Sweden and Russia where it is not uncommon for politicians to drop the ceremonial first puck. The overcooked political overtones were all in the mind of the NYT editors. You go to a hockey game to have fun and that’s what everyone had. Good game too.
We’ve spent all day debating this on the thread below. The most objective appraisal of it all day that I know of occurred on the Fox News newscast at 9:15 this AM. On their video, the boos clearly predominated, at least for the initial 10-15 seconds and the background of the rather tight frame behind the Palins was filled with people thumbs downing and booing their lungs out.The female Fox reporter watching it said, “they are really mean.” Furthermore, if you go to post #55 on the thread , you’ll see a lot more ugliness that went on in Philadelphia. The fact that the NYT modified this account, to me, confirms my suspicion that they are trying to cover up the hateful actions of Obama supporters booing a six-year old. The threads last night, the sports blogs like CBS sportsline, etc , the Youtubes all showed a lot of booing. Then, overnight, instead of reporting “cascades of boos” as they had last night, it became “a mixture of boos and cheers.” The theme of the spincycle this weekend has been the “ugliness and hatred” at McCain/Palin rallies, and this story of the hatred directed at a six year old by Obama supporters steps all over the theme.

With all this talk about Philadelphia sports fans booing, its worth pointing out that Flyers fans are not Eagles fans, or even Phillies fans. Flyers fans are not characteristically as vocal or as harsh. Different teams have different atmospheres, even if they are in the same town. Flyers crowds are an affluent lot. They would have to hire people to boo. Those who booed Palin were liberals from Cherry Hill, NJ or Voorhees, NJ who can afford to pay far more in taxes.
The leftists in the MSM would kill their own mothers if their mothers were suspected of being counter-revolutionaries.
remember these philly fans booed santa claus
Isn’t the initial account proper consider it is coming from the Jason Blair Gazette?
I saw the footage and I didn’t hear any boos. Now journalists are just making up stuff out of whole cloth.
No, there was plenty of boos initially. But they were drowned out.
Just a personal insight, but......
Drove from Gettysburg, PA area to OCMD and back Friday/Sunday. Saw 10 McCain-Palin signs to every 1 Obama-Biden sign. One might think that being next door to Delaware there might be more traction for Biden. But if there is, it doesn’t show.
The MSM lied again. No kidding.
JoMa
That is believable.
