Am I missing something? Even if Obama was born in Kenya wasn’t he born to a citizen of the US, and wouldn’t he then automatically have the option to have dual citizenship?

That’s not the issue, the constitution says you must be naturally born.

This is why Arnold cannot run for president.

I’m fairly certain that doesn’t qualify him, possibly because of HER age and the fact that she didn’t live in the US for at least 5 yrs after the age of 14 (someone else can confirm, but...

the biggest issue, by FAR, (actually 2 issues) is that 1) he’s posted a FAKE BC on his website and 2) he’s been lying all this time that he was born in Hawaii if this turns out to be true.

Well, it would prove he is a huge liar and falsified documents to appear born in USA at a minimum.

That can’t help him win.

I am very skeptical of all this.

But if this is true, time to prove it right now.

The way I understand it he had to reclaim it at 18.

A "natural born citizen" is, I think it logical to believe, a person who was a citizen at the time of his birth. That means that he would have to have been a citizen according to the laws of the United States at the time that he was born, not according to laws the United States may have passed later.

At the time Obama was born (at least according to putatively knowledgeable FReepers), he would have inherited US citizenship from his American mother even if born in (in this instance) Kenya if she had lived continuously in the US for 5 years after having attained the age of 14. I.e., he could have inherited American citizenship from her if she had been nineteen - but she was only 18 when he was born. Hence, if he was born in Kenya as alleged he was not an American citizen at the time of his birth.

Certainly that is a ticky tacky kind of distinction upon which to declare someone ineligible for the office of POTUS - but no more so than having been raised outside the US for his first ten years, approximately, and adopted by an Indonesian stepfather and having (it is alleged) had an Indonesian passport - and yet being declared eligible as a "natural born citizen."

But ask the people Obama has gotten past in his climb up the ladder, and they will tell you that Senator Obama knows all about ticky tacky. Getting opponents thrown off the ballot is just his style, which explains why he has gotten where he is without ever having faced serious opposition (other than Hillary). And he apparently played hardball in the caucus states in order to achieve that.
